Off to a Slow Start

Livello 1 : 25/25, 0 ante
Jordan Young
Jordan Young

The first level of play for the day started off quite slowly. The Pavilion room is packed with players seated ten to a table in three full sections. The action is off to a slow start as some players are still finding their way to their seats.

There are some notable players scattered across the room who have run well so far at this World Series. Jordan Young is one of them who had already cashed in three events (Event #8: No-Limit Hold'em, Event #18: No-Limit Hold'em, Event #24: No-Limit Hold'em Shootout). He is looking to make it three cashes in a row with this event. Another notable is Allen Kessler who came in 2nd place in Event #15: Pot Limit Hold'em last week.

The field is continuing to grow and players have until the end of level four to register to play. Right now we have over 2,000 players registered.

Ramos in the Building

Livello 1 : 25/25, 0 ante

Felipe Ramos is here today playing his first World Series of Poker event of 2011. Although Ramos is a little late to the party, seeing as it's EVent #28 and all, he wasted little time in throwing down. On the first hand he played, Ramos doubled up with an eight-high flush to his opponent's seven-high flush and was quicky up to 9,000 in chips.

Shortly after that, Ramos dropped a small pot and currently sits with 8,500. He opened from the hijack seat to 75 and the cutoff three-bet to 225. Ramos called and then check-folded the {5-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{2-Clubs} flop after his opponent bet a big 800.

Elky Seeks Another

We found Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier at one of the hundreds of tables raising preflop in the small blind. Only a player who limped in late position was willing to cough up the 75 chip bet Grospellier put out.

A flop of {8-Spades}{A-Spades}{8-Clubs} fell out of the deck and again it was Grospellier who bet, this time 150 chips. He received a call and both players moved to the turn. With a {J-Spades} fourth street Grospellier bet out 250 and received no call.

Grospellier has already won one bracelet this WSOP and we know he is vehemently trying to win another.

Players, Players and Some More Players

Livello 1 : 25/25, 0 ante

As me mentioned in our introduction, this tournament will produce yet another massive field filled with notable players.

So far we've seen Antonio Esfandiari, Dani Stern, Lars Bonding, Mike Leah, Bruce Buffer, Veronica Dabul, Mike McDonald, Jonathan Aguilar, Jordan Young, Justin Young, Shannon Shorr, Allen Kessler, David Phan, Drazen Ilich, and David Peters. And that's just in the black and yellow section! Today's tournament is also taking place in the white and green sections of the Pavilion Room as well as the purple section of the Amazon Room!

We will also be on the look out for our very own Rich Ryan, who is sitting at a table in the Yellow section chasing his own dreams of glory.

Get Ready for a Massive Field Today in Event #28

Welcome back for another day of poker here at the 2011 World Series of Poker. Today we've got Event #28: $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em kicking off at 12:00 PM PT and it's set to be another large one.

Last year, there were seven $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em events and the average field size across those was just over 2,500 runners. First place averaged over $600,000 in prize money and, of course, all the winners earned themselves a gold bracelet. Let's take a look at these events from the 2010 WSOP.

#492,542Michael Linn$609,493

This year, there's only been one of these events already played at the WSOP; Event #18. The first of the bunch was conquered by Foster Hays just a few days ago after he defeated Casey Kelton heads up to claim the gold bracelet and $735,400 in prize money. In order to get all that glory, Hays defeated a field of 3,157 players. Our lovely Sarah Grant caught up with Hays after his win and here's what he had to say.

The field today is expected to be between 2,500 and 3,000 players, which would put first place up near the $700,000 mark. It's been an amazing WSOP so far this year and we expect much more of the same today from this event. Be sure to stay tuned to PokerNews all day and night for all the coverage you can handle. Also, be sure to check out the June 16th update from our stunning Aussie hostess Lynn Gilmartin.
