Chugging Along

David Chiu
David Chiu

On a flop of {A-Clubs}{2-Spades}{10-Clubs}, a raising war exploded between David Chiu in the small blind and the player in the cutoff position. The UTG player put in the last bet, about 10,000, and Chiu was put to the test. If he were to call and lose, he'd be left with just 4,400. Nonetheless, Chiu made the call.

UTG: {A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}
Chiu: {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{9-Spades}

Chiu was ahead with his set but needed to dodge a club or ace. The {3-Diamonds} turn changed nothing, and neither did the {6-Spades} river. Chiu's set held to take down the pot and send his opponent to the rail.

Timex On A Tear

John Juanda raised it to 1,650 preflop and got calls from Mike "Timex" McDonald in the cutoff, a player in middle position, and Amnon Filippi in the small blind.

The flop came down {5-Spades}{q-Clubs}{7-Spades} Filippi checked and Juanda bet 6,000. Timex however re-raised pot and put out enough to have both Filippi and Juanda all in. Filippi first tanked for about five minutes before he folded and then Juanda did the same and folded as well. Timex scooped the nice pot and just a few hands later knocked out Juanda and another short stack at the table.

Timex has 114,000 and is also sporting a nice new 2011 World Series of Poker bracelet from his friend Jason Somerville. The two had a bracelet bet (with an undisclosed monetary bet on the side) that if one shipped a bracelet, the other one had to wear the bracelet for the rest of the World Series everywhere he went, explaining to every table he sat at why he had to wear it and that it was in fact not his own. Who knows though, the way Timex is tearing it up, he and Somerville might be switching back in a few days time.

Dwan Free Falling

Livello 8 : 300/600, 0 ante

Tom Dwan once held the chip lead at about 150,000 just about 45 minutes ago, but after a few big hands, he is all the way down to 38,000. In the last hand, we saw Dwan check call a turn bet of 8,800 on a board of {8-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}, upping the pot to about 25,000. The river came the {5-Diamonds}, and Dwan checked again. His opponent bet 11,000, and Dwan deliberated for about two minutes before sliding in a call. His opponent showed {j-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{9-Hearts}, and the ten-high straight was good enough to take the pot.

Deeb vs. Obrestad

Shaun Deeb
Shaun Deeb

Shaun Deeb raised to 1,500 under the gun and was called by Annette Obrestad in the cutoff. After the blinds got out of the way, the flop came down {10-Spades}{5-Spades}{K-Hearts}, inspiring Deeb to check-call a bet of 2,600.

From there, the dealer burned and turned the {K-Spades}, Deeb checked, and Obrestad fired out 5,500. Again Deeb called and then checked the {4-Spades} river. Obrestad bet 10,000, Deeb snap-called, and Obrestad asked, "Flush no good?"

"Nope," Deeb said as he flipped {K-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{A-Hearts}{7-Spades} for a full house, which was better than Obrestad's {A-Spades}{Q-Spades}{10-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} flush.

Powell's Got Yo' Chips, Fo' Mizz-le

Over on table 15, we've just witnessed Sorel Mizzi and Julian Powell clash heads, with Powell coming out on top to double up.

The action folded to Mizzi who raised to 1,400 from the hijack position; Powell called from the cutoff, so off they went heads-up to the flop of {J-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{3-Hearts}.

Mizzi led out for 3,050, but Powell quickly raised to 10,500. Mizzi called, then bet out 20,000 on the turn of the {4-Spades}, putting Powell all-in, but despite holding {K-}{Q-}{J-}{X-}, Powell had hit the set with his {A-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}. The river {3-Clubs} was merely an afterthought.

When It Comes to PLO, Dwan Knows Best

Shawn Buchanan limped from middle position and was joined by Tom "durrrr" Dwan on the button. From there, the small blind called, the big blind checked, and the flop came down {4-Clubs}{K-Clubs}{2-Spades}. The small blind led out for 2,000, which got everyone but Dwan to fold.

The small blind continued to bet when the {9-Clubs} hit the turn, this time putting out 3,200. Dwan tanked for a minute before casually putting in a call. The small blind must have thought something was up as he checked the {9-Diamonds} river, allowing Dwan to bet 10,400. The small blind didn't take long to release his hand.

Can't Take No More, Man

Livello 8 : 300/600, 0 ante

We came to Chris Moorman's table where he was heads up against an opponent on a board of {q-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{5-Hearts}{q-Spades}. There was already 12,000 in the pot when Moorman checked to his opponent, who fired out 7,000. Moorman called, and the river came the {k-Clubs}. Moorman checked again, and his opponent fired out 12,000, which represented about half his stack. He tanked for a couple minutes before folding, leaving about 26,000 in his stack.
