Lee Out Flopped

Livello 9 : 300/600, 75 ante

We just found a player shove his whole stack of 9,975 preflop and found a caller in Cliff Lee.

Opponent: {A-Hearts}{J-Hearts}
Lee: {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}

Lee was in great shape to eliminate a player and add some chips to his stack. However, the {6-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{9-Hearts} flop was devastating for Lee, as it gave his opponent the nut flush. The turn and river came the {Q-Clubs} and {K-Hearts}, dropping Lee's stack back down to 9,500 in chips.

Sam Trickett Does the Trick

We missed the preliminary action, but found Sam Trickett dragging a pot his way after a preflop all-in. Trickett held {9-}{9-} and was in good shape against the {7-}{7-} of his opponent.

A {9-} arrived with the flop and Trickett's set was by far the best hand. After a brick on the turn, the dealer rubbed a bit of salt in the eliminated player's wound by dropping a {7-} on the river. The meaningless set was second best and Trickett climbed to 41,000 with the win.

Soi Nguyen Spikes It, Then Ships It

We caught the action as Soi Nguyen raised to 1,350 and an opponent reraised all-in for his last 13,175. Nguyen made the call and revealed {A-Hearts}{J-Spades}, but found himself dominated by the {A-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} held by his opponent.

The dealer spread a flop of {J-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{8-Spades} across the felt and suddenly Nguyen had taken the lead. The {J-Clubs} on the turn solidified his advantage, and now only a ten could save the all-in player.

River: {3-Diamonds}

With that, Nguyen scored the knockout with a come-from-behind victory, boosting stack to around 33,000.

Even with this win, however, Nguyen could not avoid going bust himself and was sent to the rail just minutes after doubling-up. We missed the action, but Nguyen found himself all-in at some point holding {A-}{Q-} against his David Rounick's {J-Hearts}{J-Clubs}. No help arrived on any street and, just as quickly as Nguyen gained his 33,000 chips, he had donated them to Rounick, who now holds a huge stack of 92,000.

Donkament Redefined

Livello 9 : 300/600, 75 ante

We witnessed a hand recently which captured just why the WSOP's smaller buy-in events have earned the derisive nickname donkament.

After Dana Kellston raised to 1,300 from the button, both of the blinds made the call. As the big blind was making his decision, he told the table "well, I guess I'll just call this one blind" in a tone that suggested he was not joking.

Flop: {3-Spades}{6-Clubs}{3-Clubs}

After the blinds checked to him, Kellston continued with a bet of 2,300 and the small blind quickly mucked. The big blind player looked up and said "OK, guess I'll have to look at 'em now" before squeezing his hole cards. Now fully informed on his holding, the big blind opted to make the call. The turn card came {5-Diamonds} and both players tapped the table.

River: {4-Clubs}

First to act, the big blind player dramatically reached for his stack and pushed it into the middle with gusto, announcing "If its my time to go home, I guess I'm goin' home."

Kellston fully agreed with this sentiment and snap-called with his {A-Clubs}{2-Clubs} for a rivered nut flush. The big blind player then revealed the hand he had called blind with: {2-Spades}{3-Diamonds}. His gamble had paid off initially, as he flopped trip threes, but as is often the case in Hold'em, the inferior hand before the flop was inferior after the river. Kellston happily dragged the pot his way and now sits with 43,000.

Stout Out

Livello 9 : 300/600, 75 ante

We caught up just as the action ended, however, it appeared that Matt Stout lost all of his remaining chips on a {7-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{6-Spades} board. His opponent held the {Q-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}.
