Day 3 Ends Without a Champion
Day 3 started as just the first event of the 2011 World Series of Poker to not hit the money within two days. Two players played through two grueling days of poker but left today empty-handed. Team PokerStars Pro Humberto Brenes was the first to fall, followed shortly after by Jyri Merivirta who was unlucky enough to land squarely on the money bubble.
However, what started as a race to make anything at all quickly became a race to get a nice big stack of chips. Ben Lamb and Sami Kelopuro began to emerge as the big stacks as player after player hit the rail. Notable after notable fell including Justin Scwartz, Mike McDonald, David Kitai and Joao Barbosa. Eventually, even Sam Stein, who had already won a bracelet this year in an Omaha event, fell to the talented field in a massive three-way all in won by Matt Glantz.
Glantz, however, would find his own string of hard luck. While he made it to the ESPN set, he bubbled the official final table when his 
couldn't hold on against the 
of Kelopuro. That pot was only the beginning of a very active and very swingy final table for Kelopuro. Up and down most of the night, Kelopuro was able to hang on until the end of the day along with Christopher King, John Shipley and our current chip leader, Ben Lamb.
Lamb has seemingly controlled this event the entire day. Just a week removed from his second place finish to Stein, he has had his opponents on lock-down once again. He entered the day with the chip lead and has been one of the top stacks at virtually every stage of the tournament on Day 3. He even had to battle back from losing to a three-outter at the final table for about an average sized stack at the time. Exiting the day as the chip leader, he will certainly have redemption on his mind when he goes to sleep (if he can).

Dario Alioto Eliminated in 5th Place ($203,113)

From under the gun, Sami Kelopuro raised to 200,000 and Dario Alioto made the lone call from the big blind. The flop was 
and Alioto announced he was all in. While that wasn't possible since we are playing pot limit, Kelopuro obliged and the two players got the rest of Alioto's stack in the middle with a call.

Alioto finishes in 5th place while Kelopuro's roller coaster final table continues and he now has 2.8 million chips.
Shipley Finds a Double

From the button, Ben Lamb opened the pot to 185,000 and Christopher King made the call from the small blind. John Shipley was in the big blind and decided to reraise to 735,000. Lamb made the call while King got out of the way.
The flop was 
and Shipley moved all in for his final 680,000. Lamb wasted little time in making the call and the cards were placed on their backs.

While Lamb had just a wrap draw, he amazingly also could pair three of his four hole-cards to take the lead in the hand as Shipley had just Ace-high. The 
hit the turn which did not change the landscape of the hand. The river bricked Lamb again when it came the 
and Shipley was able to double up.
Lamb falls 3.8 million while Shipley will take a hold of the second largest stack with 3 million.
Lamb Dominating

From under the gun this time, Ben Lamb raised to 185,000 and Sami Kelopuro defended his big blind with a call.

and both players checked. The turn was the and Kelopuro checked again. Lamb bet 230,000 and Kelopuro called. The river was the 
and Kelopuro checked for a third time. Lamb fired again, this time for a bet worth 675,000. Kelopuro's hand was tossed into the muck and Lamb shipped the pot.
However, he wasn't done there. The very next hand these two got heads up again. Kelopuro completed from the small blind and Lamb checked his option. The flop was

and once again, both players opted to check.

John Kabbaj Eliminated in 6th Place ($153,517)

From middle position, Ben Lamb opened the pot with a raise to 185,000. It folded around to our short stack, John Kabbaj in the big blind. He announced he was raising and before you knew it had his final 700,000 in the middle with a matching stack from Lamb across the table.

Kelopuro Doubles

Dario Alioto raised from the button only to be three-bet the pot from Sami Kelopuro in the big blind. The raise was for 470,000 more and after some thought Alioto announced that he was all in. Kelopuro who had just 355,000 more after his raise made the call and the hands were turned up with Kelopuro at risk.

and the turn was the . Kelopuro was still ahead with his Queen's and the river made him an unnecessary straight. He'll take it nonetheless as the board failed to improve Alioto's hand and just like that he has 2.2 million in chips.
Break Time?

The players all agreed to take an unscheduled break. The clock, however, will run but cards will not be dealt. They have all agreed to resume play when the tournament clock hits 50 minutes left in level 28. The last hand was over at 54 minutes so some will have just four minutes to do what they need to do before the cards are back in the air.
