Make Way for Massey

Aaron Massey has continued to build his stack up over the past couple of levels. We keep catching the tail end of his all-in encounters, but we know that most recently the board read {10-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{q-Spades}{q-Clubs} and his {a-Spades}{10-Hearts} ended up as the triumphant hand.

After the hand was over he had an above average stack of 248,000.

Driscoll Drags Another One

After documenting Jonathan Driscoll friendship with defending Main event champ Jonathan Duhamel, we witnessed him stack an opponent in style.

After Driscoll made a raise, his opponent shoved all-in and the Canadian, small-buy in wunderkid snap-called with his {A-Hearts}{A-Clubs}. The dejected opponent showed down {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs} and when the he saw the {A-Diamonds} in the window, he knew all was lost. The final board read {A-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{9-Spades} and Driscoll claimed the fallen player's entire stack.

Hold it Down, Phil

Livello 18 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante

Phil Hellmuth hasn't been having the best level.

In a recent hand, the player in the hi-jack raised to 12,000 and Phil Hellmuth defended from the big.

The flop came {K-Diamonds}{A-Spades}{J-Hearts} and both players checked. When a {5-Clubs} came on the turn, Hellmuth checked again, prompting an 8,000 bet from his opponent. Hellmuth quickly called.

The river brought the {4-Spades} and Hellmuth checked a final time. His opponent deliberated, but eventually checked behind and tabled {3-}{4-} for a rivered pair of fours.

"God!" Hellmuth exclaimed, revealing the {Q-}{3-}.

"I had him drawing dead the whole way and he hits a seven-outer," Hellmuth fumed.

"I wouldn't call seven outs exactly drawing dead," his opponent retorted while scooping the pot.

"I just want to throw up right now," Hellmuth said.

Hellmuth is down to 140,000.

Jonathan, Meet Jonathan

Jonathan Duhamel (Event # 40) Was On The Rail to Support Jonathan Driscoll Here On Day 2
Jonathan Duhamel (Event # 40) Was On The Rail to Support Jonathan Driscoll Here On Day 2

Throughout the first two days of this event, we have followed Jonathan Driscoll and documented his success in this year's $1,000 NLH tourneys. The Canadian native has made two deep runs in prior $1k events, finishing in 10th place in Event # 8, and he is doing his best to surpass that milestone here today.

We found ourselves wondering where Driscoll drew the motivation to enter the minefields of the massive donkament fields. During a recent break, we watched Driscoll and a buddy exchanging strategy tips and talking poker along the rail.

Upon closer inspection, Driscoll's sounding board turned out to be none other than Jonathan Duhamel, the defending Main Event champion who has made his own deep runs in the 2011 WSOP. Apparently the two are friends and this connection sheds some light on Driscoll's dominant run in the smaller buy-in events. With Duhamel on hand to provide advice and guidance, Driscoll is armed with the knowledge and experience necessary to bring another gold bracelet back to Canada

Massey Doubles

After a tough few levels Aaron Massey was just able to double his stack. He held the {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} and although we don't know what his opponent held, the board ran out {10-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{8-Spades}{6-Diamonds} and Massey's hand was best and his stack grew to 130,000.

Hellmuth Takes a Hit

Shortly after retaking his seat following the recent break, Phil Hellmuth raised to 16,000 and his opponent on the button reraised all-in for 62,500. Hellmuth quickly made the call and flipped up {J-Spades}{J-Clubs}, but the Poker Brat began whining just a bit when he saw his opponent's {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}.

"Come on! Really?!" Hellmuth blurted before closing with "I just knew I was gonna bust this guy, he kept moving in on me and then he wakes up with queens!"

The final board ran out {5-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{K-Clubs} and Hellmuth's jacks were second best. He shipped about one-fourth of his chips to the opponent, all the while lamenting his opponent's good fortune.

Baker Bringing the Heat

David Baker wasted no time in building his stack after the beginning of the level. He and another player got all the chips in the middle preflop with Baker having the other player covered.

Baker: {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}
Opponent: {j-}{j-}

The board ran out {k-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{3-Spades}{9-Spades} and the other player was sent to the rail while Baker's stack grew to 305,000.
