Day 2 In The Books, Mercier Leads With 13 Left

Livello 18 : 5,000/10,000, 0 ante
Jason Mercier going for #2
Jason Mercier going for #2

What started with 310 is now just 13, and as if we haven't heard enough about him at this summer's WSOP, Jason Mercier is at it again and is our chip leader here at the end of Day 2 of Event #49: $2,500 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball (Limit) with 358,500. While Mercier started his short yet incomparable career just a few years ago with No-Limit Hold'em success, he has expanded out to the mixed games and has been absolutely crushing them at this year's WSOP. He started things off with a final table in the $1,500 2-7 Draw Lowball (No-Limit) where he finished in seventh. He then cashed in both the $10,000 Seven Card Stud Championship and the $10,000 Omaha Hi-Low Split-8 or Better Championship, and if that wasn't enough, he just shipped his second bracelet (and second in Pot-Limit Omaha) just over a week ago in the $5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha / Six Handed. If Mercier wins this, he will have a near lock on the WSOP Player of the Year and will cement himself in the conversation as best player in the world.

While Mercier going for his second bracelet of the series is the main story, we still have plenty of big names left looking for the bracelet and $189,919 first prize. Included in those are Eli Elezra, (327,000) who already has three cashes in mixed-game events at this summer's WSOP, recent WPT Championship Winner Scott Seiver (303,000), Shawn Buchanan (196,500), who among his four cashes at this summer's WSOP has a second place finish in the $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. Championship, 2011 PCA Main Event Champ Galen Hall (143,000), 2009 $50,000 World Championship H.O.R.S.E. Champion David Bach (115,000), Jon Turner (145,000), and Justin Bonomo (111,500)

Those who started Day 2 but didn't make it to the end include Mike Matusow, Joe Hachem, Greg Raymer, Tom Dwan, Daniel Negreanu, Pat Pezzin, Gavin Smith, and Robert Williamson III among others.

Will Jason Mercier win his second bracelet of the summer and lock up the Player Of The Year? Find out tomorrow at 3:00 PST when we re-start and play down to a winner. Follow all the action and up to the minute updates right here on PokerNews.com

David Chiu Eliminated in 14th Place ($8,049)

We found David Chiu and Leonard Martin mixing it up. With Martin taking one card and Chiu taking two, it was Chiu though who bet out after Martin checked. Martin called and took one card, while Chiu stood pat. Martin then check raised and Chiu called and was all in.

Both players stood pat for the last draw round and cards were tabled. Martin showed {8-}{6-}{5-}{4-}{3-} and Chiu said he had "eight seven low" and mucked.

Iakov Nepomnyashchiy Eliminated in 16th Place ($8,049)

Eli Elezra raised and found a caller in Iakov Nepomnyashchiy. Nepomnyashchiy took two cards while Elezra opted for one. Nepmnyashchiy then check called a bet from Elezra.

It was here that both players took one card. Nepomnyashchiy then bet for the first time and was quickly called by Elezra. Nepomnyashchiy stood pat as Elezra drew one. Nepomnyashchiy finished off the hand by check calling a bet from Elezra.

Elezra showed {8-}{6-}{4-}{3-}{2-} which was enough and Nepomnyashchiy mucked.

Shortly after this hand Elezra and Nepomnyashchiy got into another hand, and Elezra again got the better half of it, and Iakov Nepomnyashchiy was eliminated.
