Lamb Tops the Field After Day 2

Livello 10
Ben Lamb
Ben Lamb

Day 2 of the $50,000 Poker Player's Championship is in the books. Leading the way after another five levels of play is Ben Lamb. Lamb won his first-ever World Series of Poker gold bracelet in Event #42: $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Championship during this WSOP and also ran deep in Event #46: $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em / Six Handed Championship. He currently leads the WSOP Player of the Year race and sits on top of this field going into Day 3 with 704,000 in chips.

This event returned with 124 players from the starting field of 128. Only four player hit the rail yesterday, but today a lot more vanished. Some of those that were eliminated on the day included Daniel Negreanu, Jean-Robert Bellande, Jason Mercier, Allen Bari, Dan O'Brien, Mike Matusow, Justin Bonomo and Tom Dwan. Defending champion Michael Mizrachi also hit the rail. At the end of the day, 74 players remained.

Under the gun, Mizrachi went all in for 7,900 and next to act, David Benyamine called. The rest of the table folded.

Mizrachi: {K-Spades}{8-Spades}
Benyamine: {A-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}

Mizrachi took the lead on the flop as it rolled out {K-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{4-Spades}. Benyamine picked up a few more outs on the {9-Spades} turn and scored the elimination when the {9-Clubs} hit the river, ending Mizrachi's title defense.

Besides Lamb, Gus Hansen, David "OBD" Baker, Rami Boukai, Matt Glantz and Scott Seiver also has very solid days on the felt. They each built nice stacks and will head into Day 3 well above average. Other notables remaining include Barry Greenstein, Robert Mizrachi, Nick Schulman, Phil Hellmuth and 2009 $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. champion David Bach.

Play resumes tomorrow at 3:00 PM PT and the schedule is to play five to six more levels. Be sure to check right back here at PokerNews for all the live coverage from the WSOP and this hefty $50,000 buy-in.

"Justice"

Livello 10

Pot-Limit Omaha

One of the tables is still playing thanks to a controversial pot bet.

Brett Richey raised to 6,000 from the cutoff, and Simon Munz raised pot, putting out 22,000. Richey then re-potted to just over 50,000, sending Munz in the tank. After three or five minutes, Munz realized that he actually couldn't pot for 22,000 - the bet should've been 19,200.

This sparked a huge controversy, during which Jack Effel was called to give the final word. After talking to the floor and the dealer on the phone, they decided that the original pot would be reduced to 19,200, and Richey's re-pot would be reduced as well. Munz called.

The flop came down {9-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{k-Clubs}, Richey checked, Munz potted, and Richey re-potted all in. Munz called.

Richey: {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}{q-Spades}{4-Clubs}
Munz: {j-Spades}{j-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}

Richey held as the turn and river came {5-Diamonds}, {4-Diamonds}, and doubled to just over 350,000.

"Justice!" Richey exclaimed after the hand.

Mortensen brought it in, and Benyamine, Cheung and Greenstein called. Benyamine led on fourth street, and everyone called but Mortensen.

Benyamine checked on fifth, Cheung bet, Greenstein raised, and both Benyamine and Cheung called.

Benyamine paired on sixth, and led out. Cheung got out of the way, and Greenstein called. Greenstein called one more bet from Benyamine on seventh, and mucked when Benyamine tabled {q-Clubs}{10-Spades}{5-Diamonds} for queens and fours.

Pat Pezzin raised all in for less than two bets from under the gun, Jen Harman three-bet in middle position, and Doug Booth and Sebastian Ruthenberg cold-called. Pezzin drew three, Harman drew one, Booth drew two, and Ruthenberg drew three.

Ruthenberg checked, Harman bet, and only Booth called.

On the second draw, Pezzin drew two, and Harman and Booth drew one. Both Harman and Booth checked.

On the final draw, Pezzin stood pat, Harman drew one, and Booth drew one. Again, Harman and Booth checked.

Harman took the side pot with {j-}{8-}{6-}{3-}{2-}, and Pezzin scooped the main with {9-}{6-}{5-}{4-}{3-}.

Mizrachi Busts Sexton

2-7 Triple Draw

Mike Sexton was all in pre-draw and up against Robert Mizrachi. For the draws, Sexton drew two, two and one. Mizrachi drew one, one and one. Sexton was drawing to a {8-}{5-}{3-}{2-} and Mizrachi to a {7-}{4-}{3-}{2-}. Both players drew a king, which meant that Mizrachi held the better low and won the pot. He eliminated Sexton and moved to 340,000 in chips.
