Arieh Rising, Leads After Day 3

Livello 15
Josh Arieh
Josh Arieh

Day 3 of the $50,000 Poker Player's Championship is in the books, and our chip leader is Josh Arieh with 1,819,000 chips.

At the start of the day there were 74 runners, and after five more levels of play only 29 remain. We lost a handful of notables today including Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier, Greg Mueller, Erick Lindgren, Chad Brown, Eugene Katchalov, Justin Smith and Abe Mosseri.

Arieh isn't the only player over a million chips. Brian Rast (1,633,000), George Lind (1,304,000), Vladimir Shchemelev (1,181,000), Phil Hellmuth (1,174,000), and Scott Seiver (1,137,000) are all over seven figures.

Ben "Benba" Lamb entered the day with the chip lead, but tumbled down to 300,000 chips. He battled back however, ending the day with 582,000 of chips.

Our only former champion in the field busted in one of the last five hands of the night. During a hand of pot-limit Omaha, David Bach called all in on the river against Gus Hansen with the board reading {k-Hearts}{6-Spades}{4-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}. Hansen showed {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{3-Spades} for quad kings, and Bach was eliminated.

Hansen was the first player to eclipse a million chips, and was our chip leader for the majority of the day. He slipped during the last level, but is still commanding a healthy stack of 774,000 chips.

Play will resume tomorrow at 3 p.m. PDT, where we will play down to a final table.

For all of us at the Rio, goodnight and see you tomorrow!
