Event #61: $2,500 Mixed: Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better; Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo 8 or Better (8-Handed)
Giorno 1 completo
The 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas saw Event #61: $2,500 Mixed Stud/Omaha Hi-Lo complete its first day of play. A total of 507 entrants came out to play this event, topping last year’s turnout of 460 and ensuring that 77 players will see a piece of the $1,128,075 prize pool. A total of 189 bagged up for the night, with all eyes on the first-place prize of $222,703.
Ending the night as the chip leader was Joseph Shammas, who bagged 266,000, closely followed by three-time WSOP bracelet winner Chad Eveslage, who bagged 259,000. Eveslage is coming hot off of a final table appearance in the $3,000 9-Game Mix where he finished fourth.
Earlier this summer, Eveslage finished second in the $10,000 Limit Hold’em bracelet event and he looks to continue his good runs in this tournament, too. He got into the tournament later than most, but was able to spin his stack up to almost lead by the end of the night. With many bracelets and other titles under his belt in all games, he looks to be a force to be reckoned with on the second day of this tournament.
Rank | Player | Country | Chips |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Joseph Shammas | United States | 266,000 |
2 | Chad Eveslage | United States | 259,000 |
3 | Robert Mizrachi | United States | 258,500 |
4 | Venkata Tayi | United States | 250,500 |
5 | Ziya Rahim | United States | 246,000 |
6 | Kevin Chance | United States | 227,500 |
7 | Takehiko Nakajima | Japan | 217,000 |
8 | Gary Benson | Australia | 213,000 |
9 | Jose Ferro | Colombia | 212,500 |
10 | Terrence Hastoo | United States | 205,500 |
Sitting just behind Eveslage is Robert Mizrachi, who ended the day with 258,500. Mizrachi earned his fifth WSOP bracelet in the $10,000 Dealers Choice just a couple of weeks ago, and his good fortune has also manifested in this tournament. Mizrachi was a dominant force for most of the day, flirting with the chip lead many times and ending just shy of it. Mizrachi’s domination of the felt is known throughout the country, with his first bracelet win dating back to 2007. Now, seventeen years later, he once more proves his proficiency in all games.
Others that bagged included David Williams (186,000), Dario Sammartino (183,000), WSOP commentator Norman Chad (182,000), Benny Glaser (164,000), Ari Engel (138,000), Joe Hachem (107,500), and Allen Kessler (73,500). Each one of them is looking to etch their way into hi-lo history.
Not all players found fortune today. Players like Chris Vitch, Scott Abrams, Patrick Leonard, Eric Buchman, and Shaun Deeb all found themselves falling short of the bags at the end of the night. They will have to look elsewhere this summer to collect another bracelet.
Players will return on June 25 at 1 p.m. local time, where they will begin Day 2 at Level 13. Blinds will be 2,000/4,000, and the ante will be 1,000 with a 1,000 bring-in. Limits will be 4,000/8,000 and levels will last 60 minutes each.
Stay tuned to PokerNews for all updates on the WSOP.

Omaha Hi-Lo
Lawrence Brandt raised on the button and Ari Engel called from the small blind for a heads-up pot.
Engel check-called a bet from Brandt on the 2♠J♥2♥ flop and then both players checked on the 3♠ turn.
The Q♦ completed the board and Engel led out for a bet. Brandt thought it over before putting in calling chips and Engel turned over A♣A♠10♣10♦ for aces-up.
Brandt couldn't beat it and mucked — conceding the pot to Engel.

A player limped in the hijack and Patrick Moulder called on the button with the big blind checking his option.
The flop of 7♠J♦10♣ saw action check to Moulder who bet and only the hijack called.
On the turn 3♥, Moulder bet a second time when checked too and once more was called.
The river 4♥ saw the hijack check and then fold to the bet from Moulder.
