Another 98 Hopefuls Reach the Money Stages via Day 1c; Big Names Advance

Livello 18 : Blinds 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Serhii Holodiuk
Serhii Holodiuk

The flagship tournament of the 2023 World Series of Poker Paradise at the five-star Atlantis Resort & Casino has wrapped up the third of four starting days in Event #10: $5,000 Main Event Championship. Day 1c drew a total of 648 entries and another 98 players locked up a cash prize on The Bahamas.

How big the slice of the eight-figure prize pool will be is not finalised yet because one further starting day remains. So far, the marquee event is on track to reach the ambitious $15 million guarantee on Paradise Island with more than 2,700 total entries already recorded. That includes the online flight on GGPoker and all those wishing to take another shot can do so in the morning hours of Tuesday, December 12, 2023.

Four players finished Day 1c within ten big blinds for the money stages with Serhii Holodiuk claiming the honours of chip leader after he accumulated 1,185,000 in chips. Ljubomir Josipovic follows right behind with 1,158,000, Yoo Sin Kang (1,110,000) and Rayan Chamas (1,103,000) also have seven figure stacks to their names as well.

Both Holodiuk and Chamas were responsible for the night to end as they scored two eliminations during hand-for-hand play. The exit of Matas Cimbolas was perhaps the most cruel one when the kings of the Lithuanian poker pro were cracked by the jacks of Chamas. Chin Wei Lim, who had already bubbled on Day 1a, avoided the same fate and survived in the third showdown.

Among the top ten stacks are several other standout names in the international poker scene. 2023 WSOP bracelet winner Renji Mao (860,000), High Roller regular Timothy Adams (826,000), and GGPoker streamer Kevin Martin (767,000) all established an excellent base for a deep run.

GGPoker ambassador and WSOP Hall of Fame member Daniel Negreanu also advanced with an above-average stack of 393,000, joined by the likes of Chanracy Khun(429,000), Justin Saliba (348,000) and 2021 WSOP Player of the Year Josh Arieh (336,000) achieved the same feat. Among the former WSOP Main Event champions, Koray Aldemir, Jamie Gold and Ryan Riess joined the fray but failed to bag up chips.

The final turbo heat will feature 20-minute levels and kicks off at 10 a.m. local time on Tuesday, December 12, 2023. Once it has whittled down the field to the top 15 percent like all other previous online and live starting days, those with chips at their disposal have locked up a cash prize.

All survivors of the four live flights at the Atlantis Hotel and Casino and the online heat on GGPoker will return to their seats at 5 p.m. local time. As of Day 2, the level duration increases to 60 minutes each and Day 2 is currently scheduled to play until the end of level 24.

Stay tuned for the exclusive live updates for this marquee event right here on PokerNews to find out who will retain their chances to win the one-of-a-kind WSOP Paradise Main Event bracelet. The winner is set to be crowned on December 14, 2023.

Lehoussine and Cimbolas Eliminated; Lim Survives

Livello 18 : Blinds 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Matas Cimbolas
Matas Cimbolas

There were three all-in and call at the same time, potentially ensuring that the bubble would burst.

As fate would have it, Day 1a joint bubble boy Chin Wei Lim was all-in for 28,000 out of the dead button and called by Clemen Deng in the big blind.

Chin Wei Lim: J10
Clemen Deng: 96

The 732JA board locked up the double for Lim on the turn, and he avoided the Day 1a fate when he was eliminated on the bubble.

One table over, Matas Cimbolas was all-in for 166,000 on the button and looked up by Rayan "Beriuzy" Chamas.

Matas Cimbolas: KK
Rayan Chamas: JJ

Cimbolas was way out in front and had both suits covered. There was no threat on the A52 flop but the J turn put a dagger into Cimbolas' hopes of survival. Last but not least, the A river only improved Chamas to a full house and Cimbolas bowed out two spots away from the end of the night.

Last but not least, there was a lot of confusion about a possible option to reraise on table 30 when Karim Lehoussine had been all-in already. He had jammed for 22,000 from under the gun and Serhii Holodiuk min-raised in the cutoff. Russell Dohan called in the small blind and it took a while to sort out the correct amount for the side pot.

The two active players then checked down the A845Q board. Holodiuk tabled the 108, Dohan had the 97 and Lehoussine's K4 was no good.

With two seat open and a double, the field was reduced to 99 hopefuls and a table broke to balance ahead of the stone-cold money bubble.

Martin Runs Riot to Join Big Stacks

Kevin Martin
Kevin Martin

Leonard Maue got it in ahead for around 230,000 with KK against the JJ of Kevin Martin. However, the GGPoker streamer spiked a full house on the 332J5 runout and knocked out Maue.

The next player to fall was Sriharsha Doddapaneni, who flipped with queen-jack against the eights of Martin. It was a dramatic runout with a jack on the flop and eight on the river.

One hand later, Davidi Kitai opened to 22,000 in the cutoff. Martin three-bet to 76,000 on the button and Kitai tank-folded.

Another table breaks as the field has been whittled down to just 115 players and the money bubble is fewer than two dozen eliminations away. Among those to depart was also Aladin Mrkaljevic, who ran into the AA of Jhon Diaz. The JJ965 board gave Diaz the ace-high flush.

Fergenbaum and Istomin Knocked out

Livello 15 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Matthew Fergenbaum
Matthew Fergenbaum

Matthew Fergenbaum jammed pocket fours with a short stack and Jessica Teusl just called out of the small blind. Aleksei Istomin jammed over the top and Teusl snap-called with the KK, catching Istomin with the inferior 88. The board was all paint and Istomin saw his stack reduced to fumes.

Soon after, Istomin raised to 20,000 with 1,000 behind and Ljubomir Josipovic called.

The A108 flop saw Istomin all-in with the AQ and Josipovic had pulled ahead with the 108. Nothing changed with the 4 turn and 6 river, sending Istomin to the rail as well.

Josipovic added further chips after to nearly reach seven figures.

Yates Yeets It In; Josipovic Collects

Ljubomir Josipovic

Ljubomir Josipovic opened to 15,000 and was called by David D'Alessandro on the button. Behind them, Greg Yates raised big out of a stack of around 140,000 and Josipovic quickly tossed in his big T-25,000 chips, D'Alessandro folded. Yates was then officially all-in and they turned them over.

Greg Yates: 55
Ljubomir Josipovic: AK

The K63 flop improved Josipovic to a pair of kings while Yates picked up a gutshot on the 7 turn. Nothing changed with the 6 river and Josipovic added even more chips to his growing tower.

Doddapaneni Puts Kitai in the Blender

Livello 14 : Blinds 3,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Davidi Kitai
Davidi Kitai

Kevin Martin opened in early position to 8,000 before Sriharsha Doddapaneni called from the cutoff and Davidi Kitai defended his big blind.

The 533 flop landed and the action checked to Doddapaneni who took the betting lead with a wager of 8,000. It was then on Kitai who only took a moment before putting in a check-raise to 22,000.

Martin folded but Doddapaneni put in the chips and the J rolled off on the turn completing the flush. This didn't slow Kitai down as he put out another bet of 18,000. Doddapaneni called again.

The Q hit the river and Kitai slowed down and checked. Doddapaneni sat in the tank for a moment but eventually he moved all in for his last 92,000.

Kitai looked to be in pain over the decision and mulled it over for close to three-minutes before his cards finally found the muck.

Doddapaneni smiled as he dragged the pot and Kitai made a joke about wanting to see the Doddapaneni's hand.

Teusl Gets Her Wish Granted

A few hands ago, Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier had jammed a short stack from early position and Terence Kluczkowski folded the 66 face-up when in the big blind, Grospellier flashed ace-king.

"Whenever I get a bad beat on GG, I see your face ... I really want to take your chips," Jessica Teusl joked in table chat then.

Soon after, Grospellier jammed for 45,000 with the 33 and Teusl looked him up with the 77.

The Q55AJ board provided no help to the dominated pair and Teusl had her wish granted almost immediately.

Two Seat Open on Table 11

Justin Bonomo
Justin Bonomo

Edward Franklin got his chips in with the dominated 88 and had a mountain to climb, as Anton Smirnov tabled the QQ.

The AQ6 flop left Franklin on very thin ice and it was all over with the 7 turn and 10 river.

Shortly thereafter, Justin Bonomo was spotted on his way out of the same table as well. His cards were mucked already and the pot was shipped to Brazil's Jorge Ribeiro, who claimed the pot with the K7. According to Nicholas Unaro, Bonomo had defended the 6x5x and flopped an open-ended straight draw on 1074. The 6 turn gave Bonomo an inferior pair and the 2 river was a blank.

Sunghak Lee raised to 6,000 and Jeremy Izquierdo called from the next seat over before Thomas Muehloecker shoved 35,500 from the seat after that. Timothy Adams came in with more from late position before Shaun Deeb jammed his last 75,000 from the button. Lee and Izquierdo got out of the way and action was three ways with Deeb and Muehloecker at risk.
