More Familiar Faces

The hits just keep on coming! Another trek through the Yellow section and we've managed to find 2009 WSOP Europe Main Event champion Barry Shulman and Aussie wunderkind Daniel Neilson sharing space on table 281. We've also found Jennifer Tilly, Bill Chen, Michael Mizrachi, Vanessa Selbst, Neil Channing and Garry Gates.

Meanwhile, over on table 30, we picked up a hand between David Chiu, and Patrick Howard, a computer technician from Olympia, Washington. Howard had moved all in after a flop of {A-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{K-Clubs}, but Chiu wasn't having a bar of it.

"I cant put you on ace-king," he sighed, before open-folding pocket jacks.

Paul Pierce is Here to Play

Paul Pierce
Paul Pierce

After facing a raise from early position preflop Paul Pierce and four others made the call to see a flop.

{9-Spades} {10-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds} all graced the felt. Two players checked, and Pierce fired out a bet, The Button and the Small Blind both came along for a turn, while the other two players folded.

A {3-Hearts} hit the turn, and Pierce moved all in. After some deliberation both players folded and Pierce showed the table {J-Clubs} {7-Clubs} for a gut shot draw bluff.

Still A Line At Registration

The massive line for registration has shortened considerably. Checking with a few people in line, they said they've spent about 45 minutes waiting. They seemed in good spirits and said the line is moving quickly.

Pack 'Em In!

Livello 2 : 25/50, 0 ante

A quick check of the tournament clock gives us an unofficial count of 2,797 players with more on the way. Most, if not all of the tables in the Pavillion Room have now been made 10-handed. It's a jungle out there!

Selbst Slips

The action folded around to Vanessa Selbst, who raised to 150 from middle position preflop. An opponent called from the hijack and the others got out of the way before Selbst bet 250 at the flop of {10-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}.

The hijack called, then both players checked the turn of the {5-Hearts} before Selbst check-folded on the {a-Spades} river.

Affleck Gifted Some Early

We caught up to the action to find Matt Affleck, Scott Montgomery, and two others see a flop of {Q-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{10-Spades}. After everyone checked it was the cutoff who bet 500. Only Affleck was willing to make the call.

On the {4-Hearts} turn Affleck moved all in for 1,900 and was called by the cutoff. Affleck held {A-Spades}{Q-Spades} and was way ahead of his opponent's {3-Clubs}{3-Spades}.

The river {6-Hearts} rolled off the deck, giving Affleck's trip queens the win.

Table 28 Hijinks

"Man, you should have been over here earlier, PokerNews," said a player on Table 28. "We got people bustin' left and right, three-way all ins, callin' the floor ... Barry Shulman almost flipped the table!"

The chuckles all round dissipated when the cards were dealt out and the action folded to Shulman, who limped in from the hijack before the player on the button raised to 150. Daniel Neilson called from the small blind and the big blind folded to make it heads up to a flop of {6-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}.

Neilson and Shulman checked to the button, who led out for 200, but Neilson came back with a check-raise, making it 575 to go. Shulman and the button folded and Neilson picked up the pot.
