The Dane Gets Durrrr'ed on the River

Livello 11 : 10,000/20,000, 0 ante
Tom "Durrrr" Dwan
Tom "Durrrr" Dwan

With 17,000 already in the pot and the flop reading {Q-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{9-Spades}, Tom Dwan bet 13,000 and Gus Hansen made the call. The turn brought the {5-Hearts} and Dwan led out again, this time for 23,000. After two minutes of study, in which Hansen asked Durrrr for a chip count while mentally tabulating his next move, Hansen grabed a handful of pink 5,000 chips and raised to 100,000. Dwan instantly made the call and flipped up {K-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}, but found himself trailing the two pair of Hansen, who held {3-Spades}{5-Clubs}. The rail gasped slightly when the dealer turned over the {K-Hearts} on the river, giving Dwan top set and the sizable pot.

Dwan and Hansen Tangle Early

Livello 11 : 10,000/20,000, 0 ante

As expected the match between Gus Hansen and Tom Dwan got real big, real fast. With a pot around 80,000 by river Dwan moved all in for 136,000 on a board of {8-Hearts} {J-Spades} {6-Spades} {4-Diamonds} {J-Clubs}.

Hansen went into his usual painful looking tank with twitching and grimacing. "It doesn't feel right," he said. "It doesn't make any sense whatsoever."

Hansen called and showed {9-Clubs} {9-Spades} and Dwan kicked his cards into the muck. Dwan cashed in one of his rebuys, leaving one in reserve.

Hansen Still Pressing

Livello 11 : 10,000/20,000, 0 ante

Gus Hansen has adopted a very button-limpy style. In fact, we haven't seen him raise the button once in two days. We pick up another pot as he limped in for the minimum, and Tom Dwan knocked the table for a free flop.

It came {7-Clubs} {8-Spades} {A-Clubs}, and Dwan made a bet of what looked like 8,000. Hansen quickly raised it up to 20,000, and Dwan studied his opponent for a bit before making the call. The {A-Hearts} paired the board on the turn, and Dwan check-called another 40,000 from Hansen.

That led them to the {6-Hearts} river, and Dwan checked again.

"All right," Hansen said. "It's time to see what I actually have." He squeezed his cards, then checked behind.

"I have jack-high," Dwan announced.

"I have an eight," Hansen answered, tabling his {Q-Spades} {8-Clubs} to take the pot. Dwan continues to slide here in this match, down to 170,000 (plus one more 200,000-chip bullet). That gives Hansen the other 830,000 chips in the duel.

Timoshenko Tanks and Tanks Some More

Livello 11 : 10,000/20,000, 0 ante

Yevgeniy Timoshenko and Olivier Busquet are known as two of the most deliberate and calculating players on the circuit and this nearly 10 minute hand was no exception. With the flop reading {3-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs} and 43,000 chips in the middle, Timoshenko bet 17,000. Busquet studied intently for a minute or so before making it 45,000 to go. Not to be outdone, Timoshenko paused and thought things over for at least five minutes before making the call. The players both checked when the turn came {8-Spades} and the dealer flipped up the {5-Clubs} on the river. Timoshenko wnet into the tank yet again, sitting motionless while staring his opponent down. After reflecting, Timoshenko made a smallish bet of 22,500 and Busquet quickly called. Timoshenko's {A-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds} was good enough to drag the pot and he took an early lead in this heads-up duel.

Jake's Jacks Down Jaffe

Livello 11 : 10,000/20,000, 0 ante
Jake Cody Advances to Round of 8
Jake Cody Advances to Round of 8

After a series of preflop raises escalated to the point that both players were all-in, Jonathan Jaffe turned over {K-Hearts}{Q-Spades} and Jake Cody revealed his {J-Diamonds}{J-Spades}. The two were racing as the flop came {3-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}, offering no help to Jaffe. The turn was the {5-Clubs} and Jaffe was down to his last card. A {6-Hearts} on the river was not good enough and Jake Cody is the first player to advance to the Round of 8, earning at least $138,852 for his work thus far.

Mother Russia Has One Less

Livello 11 : 10,000/20,000, 0 ante

Mikhail Smirnov was not having a good match against Nikolay Evdakov. Smirnov had already cashed in his two rebuys and Evdakov still hadn't used either of his rebuys. Smirnov moved all in preflop with pocket queens and Evdakov called with {A-Spades} {K-Hearts}. Smirnov had Evdakov's 371,000 shove barely covered. The board ran {7-Hearts} {3-Hearts} {A-Clubs} {5-Clubs} {4-Hearts} and Smirnov was crippled to just under 30,000.

Two hands later Smirnov moved all in from the button for 29,300 and Evdakov called.

Smirnov: {Q-Hearts} {8-Diamonds}
Evdakov: {J-Diamonds} {9-Clubs}

The board fell {A-Clubs} {10-Clubs} {K-Hearts} {3-Clubs} {4-Clubs} giving Evdakov the pot and the most decisive defeat of the round.

Guetti Finds an Out

Livello 11 : 10,000/20,000, 0 ante

There was about 75,000 in the pot when we walked up to see a {7-Hearts} {J-Spades} {10-Clubs} flop. Richard Lyndaker was likely the preflop three-bettor, and he led out with 32,500 more chips. Anthony Guetti didn't waste much time raising to 87,000, and Lyndaker shoved all in with his covering stack. Guetti quickly made the call for 287,300 with his {K-Spades} {Q-Spades} still drawing, and Lyndaker's {10-Diamonds} {10-Spades} had his opponent in a worse spot that he'd hoped.

The turn {3-Diamonds} was a blank, but the river {9-Diamonds} was just the out Guetti was looking for. A frustrated Lyndaker shot out of his chair and spun around in frustration. He was just one card away from advancing into the Elite Eight, but the open-ender has struck him down. After counting out his debt, his stack has fallen below starting to about 550,000 as Guetti takes a slight lead.

Hansen's Pair Fades Dwan's Draws

Livello 11 : 10,000/20,000, 0 ante

With 32,000 in the pot and the flop reading {9-Spades}{7-Clubs}{J-Clubs}, Tom Dwan bet 24,000 and Hansen shoved all-in. Dwan called for his remaining chips and showed {Q-Spades}{10-Diamonds} for an open-ended straight draw. Hansen flipped over the {J-Hearts}{6-Hearts} for top pair. Dwan needed to spike an eight, queen or king to take the lead, but the turn of {9-Hearts} was a brick. The river came {A-Hearts} and Hansen survived, forcing Dwan to cash in a 200,000 add-on and attempt yet another comeback.
