Welcome back to the Rio for Day 3 of the $25,000 Heads-Up Championship.
A tidy 128 players put up the initial buyin, and that number has been whittled to just eight over the course of four rounds. The list of players who are down $25,000 already this summer is an impressive one smattered with pros like David Williams, Daniel Negreanu, Huck Seed, Jason Mercier, ElkY, Michael Mizrachi, and about a hundred others. We've already had eight payout slips cashed last night, and Tom Dwan was the last man to take the walk to the payout desk after falling to Gus Hansen.
Our eight players are listed below, and the matches figure to be great ones to watch.
We're about fifteen minutes from our start time, but we're still not exactly sure of the schedule. The initial plan was to play just one round today, but the staff seems to be gunning for a second round this evening. We'll update that info as soon as we receive some news.
For now, don't wander too far. The restart and the round of eight is just a few minutes away.

We're off and running with the round of eight. We'll be playing one match today.
Table 286 is being played over on the third featured table in the new Purple section of the Amazon Room.
In the near match, Anthony Guetti took his full 1.2 million chip stack to begin the match, while his opponent Jake Cody took just one bullet of 400,000. The two men have been playing big preflop pots with not much action thereafter.
In the Gus Hansen vs. Matt Marafioti match, both men have started with just 400,000, and they're playing small pots so far.
The Jake Cody vs. Anthony Guetti match may well be the first one to finish at this pace.
The two men are pulling no punches so far, and we've seen a lot of preflop action. In the most recent hand, Jake Cody opened to 12,000 from the button, and Guetti three-bet to 38,000 rather quickly. Cody took pause before four-betting to 92,000, and Guetii thought better of it and released his hand into the muck.
In the heads-up contests pitting David Paredes against Yevgeniy Timoshenko, and Nikolay Evdakov against Eric Froehlich, all four players have decided to conserve their ammunition and start play with 400,000 chips. The format of this championship event allows each player to utilize two add-ons worth 400,000 each, and while some competitors prefer to begin play with their full stacks of 1.2 million chips, this grouping has taken the conservative route. We will keep you updated throughout the match as to the status of each player's add-ons.
Jake Cody has gone ahead and taken his full stack of 1.2 million now, but it's a little shy of that starting count as we speak.
In the last hand, we walked up to a flop of , and Cody either bet or raised 74,500 with about 110,000 in the pot. Guetti was out of position, and he raised to about 190,000, forcing Cody to fold.
Right now, Cody is left with about 910,000, giving the other 1.49 million.
