Hello everyone! We are back at the Rio for Day 2 of Event #25: $1,500 Seven Card Stud Hi-Low-8 or better. Yesterday, 606 players entered with the hopes of winning a gold bracelet, and of those players, 172 remain. We have a tie at the top of the leader board, with well known pro Cyndy Violette sharing the top spot with Hernan Novick, with each player holding 43,400 in chips.
There are plenty of other players who are still in contention for that coveted bracelet and the $200,459 first place prize. Tom Dwan is sitting at 35,500, Norman Chad at 33,400, and Frank Kassela with 32,100. Other players like Mike Sexton, Jason Mercier, Alex Kravchenko, and the Prince of Poker himself Scotty Nguyen are still in contention with plenty of chips.
Play is set to get underway at 3 pm local time. The plan is to play a full 10 levels, and when play is over, the remaining players will return tomorrow to try and play down to a winner. We here at Pokernews will be bringing you all the action action, and every chopped pot, as we get ready for Day 2 of the $1500 Seven Card Stud Hi-Low-8 or Better!
Livello: 9
Limiti: 600/1,200
Ante: 100
Allen Cunningham entered the day with just around 3,800, and he is amongst a handful of short stacks that have suffered a very early end to their day.
Not the start of the day you want to see, Jeff Madsen completed showing an ace and everyone folded. Madsen turned over rolled up aces and was left to lament a lack of action
Greenstein: / /
Sigel: / /
Barry Greenstein was all by sixth with a 8-6-4-3-A low and a flush draw but missed the high hand, Michael Sigel already had a pair of fours and needed a seven or better to scoop the pot, he picked out the seven and his 7-6-5-4-A was good for the low as well.
Little: / /
Lewis: (x)(x) / FOLDED
Smith: / /
Eslami: /
Ali Eslami was all in on third street, and found three callers in Barbara Lewis, Jonathan Little, and Justin Smith. Smith bet out on fourth street, and Lewis and Little called. On fifth, Smith and Little got in a raising war that found Little all in, while Lewis got out of the way. Little had a made low, while Smith had trip queens. Eslami had two pair, and would need to improve. He couldn't, and Little and Smith split the knockout, while Eslami headed for the rail.
Dwan: / /
Cernuto: / /
Paluszek: / /
Joining the action on sixth street and it had been checked around to Tom Dwan who bet, John Cernuto then check-raised and Jim Paluszek made the call. Dwan also called and Cernuto fired out on seventh, Paluszek folded and Dwan sighed and made the call.
Cernuto turned over for the ace high flush and a 7-5-4-3-A low to scoop the pot and "Durrrr" mucked his hand.
With several players entering the day with under 10 big bets, eliminations are coming fast and furious. In the latest roung of eliminations, we saw Jonathan Duhamel and Ali Eslami leave their seats and head for the rail.
