Things have been rather slow as most players are being cautious and not getting involved in big pots early on. Jeffrey Papola and Tom Dwan are seated at the same table and have played a few hands together. We caught a hand when Papola raised to 125 preflop and Dwan called from the small blind.
The flop ran out and both players checked. The fell on the turn and Dwan led out with 250. Papola made the call. The river brought the . Dwan checked, Papola bet 600, and after thinking for a while Dwan folded.
While most tables are calm and not too lively this early in the tournament we found a table with Phil Laak and Jean-Robert Bellande. These two are loud and getting the whole table involved and everyone seems to be having a good time.
Bellande and Laak were involved in a hand when Bellande raised to 125 preflop and Laak called. The flop ran out . Laak checked from the small blind and Bellande bet 300. Laak raised all in and Bellande quickly folded.
The very next hand, a player from the button raised to 300 and Laak reraised all in. His opponent quickly folded. It looks like this table is going to see a lot of action today.
We didn't see the action ourselves, but the players at the table told us that she went all in preflop for her last 1,500 with and got a call by a player with .
Lee Markholt raised to 250 preflop, was re-raised to 700 by a player at his table, and then re-raised all in for 900 by another player at his table. Both Markholt and the second raiser called.

The Intense Stare of Scott Clements (TM) called 550 on a flop of from a player in the big blind. The turn came and the big blind moved all in. Clements called and tabled for a flopped set. The big blind was in dire straits holding . The river was bricked and Clements is up to about 11,000.

Two hands later Papola opened up action with a 250 raise and the player from the small blind reraised to 725. Dwan moved all in for his remaining 325 chips and Papola folded.
We often overhear many things while walking through the tables, most not for children's ears. We're not going to name names, but an iPhone was out and we heard "She can crush a watermelon between her legs."
Vanessa Selbst is out. The Team PokerStars Pro hasn't been able to get much going this WSOP so far, and hands like this don't help.
The pot was raised up to 250 preflop with three-way action. The flop came and the player in the hijack bet 475. The cutoff got out of the way and Selbst, on the button, re-raised to 1,150. The player in the hijack then re-raised again to 3,050, Selbst moved all in for a little over 7,000, and the hijack called.
Selbst had for the nut flush draw and the hijack had for a set of twos.
The turn gave Selbst the flush and the lead in the hand, but the river gave the hijack quad twos and sent Selbst to the rail with a pretty nasty beat. It's been a tough start to the WSOP for Selbst but we certainly haven't seen the last of her
