2011 World Series of Poker
After doing this for so long, it's pretty rare we see something that we've never seen. Today is our lucky day.
The action began with a player in middle position opening with a standard raise, and Tommy Vedes three-bet shoved for just more than 11,000 total on the button. That's important. As he told it later he "didn't expect a call," but the call came and the initial raiser showed
. Vedes turned over the
. That's all. It was the only card he was dealt, and only now did he ask for another card. The dealer slid it across the felt, and it was... the
.
The board ran out
, and Vedes' queens up earn him the double. There was some debate over the legality of the move, and the floor was called over for a chat. The hand was run past the supervisor as well, and both men ruled that Vedes already had a claim to that top card on the deck, and it was therefore his. The hand stood, and Vedes is back to 24,000.
We're back in action with the final level of the night.
Livello: 10
Bui: 400/800
Ante: 100
The field is taking a quick break to color up all the green T25 chips.
Eric Baldwin and an unknown player went to flop of
. Baldwin checked, his opponent bet 2,000 and Baldwin raised to 6,800. His opponent moved all in for 21,050 and Baldwin called. His opponent tabled
and Baldwin had the nut flush draw holding
.
The board finished
, the set of jacks held and Baldwin slipped to 63,000.
The field has been shrinking fast and they're finally condensed down to just one section -- the Black section of the Pavilion Room. Even as soon as the White section tables were all broken the bottom tables of the Black section were starting to break as well.

A player in early position opened with a raise to 1,300, and he found calls in three places, including the place occupied by Gavin Smith -- the small blind.
On the
flop, the big blind bet 3,050, and only Smith called to go heads-up, blind-versus-blind to the
turn. It put four to a straight on board, and both men checked through to the
river. Smith took the lead now with 4,400 of his own chips, and his opponent made the call.
Smith showed up
for the straight, and it was good. That's how they do it in Guelph, apparently, and it's given Smith a chip boost up to 31,000.
Matt Marafioti opened from early position to 1,425 and action folded around to David Baker in the cutoff. Baker put out a 9,000 raise, leaving only his small chips behind, and the small blind called. Marafioti emphatically folded and the flop came
. The small blind motioned all in and Baker quickly called, tabling
. The small blind held
and the board finished
. Baker quickly made an exit.
