Context Is Everything

Livello 3 : 75/150, 0 ante

Snatches of dialogue overheard while passing through the tables...

"Sorry... I'm used to online and going back to check the hand history."

"I love my iPhone, but at the same time I hate it."

"I didn't want to do anything. He might have a weapon."

Lindgren Loses Some

On a board of {5-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{10-Clubs}, a player led out for 400 and Erick Lindgren made the call. The turn came {3-Hearts} and this time Lindgren's opponent fired out 775. Lindgren quickly called and the two saw a river of {4-Spades}.

Lindgren's opponent bet out 1,875 and Lindgren made the call fairly quickly once again. His opponent tabled {K-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} and Lindgren shipped his cards into the muck.

Livello 3 : 75/150, 0 ante

The player on the button raised to 500 and Phil Laak called from the small blind. The flop ran out {q-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{9-Hearts} and both players checked.

The {10-Clubs} hit on the turn and Laak bet 1,000. His opponent made the call. The river brought the {4-Clubs} and Phil led out with 3,775. His opponent tanked for a moment before folding his cards into the muck.

Ship It To Selbst

We caught up with the action to see a lot of chips getting pushed into the middle preflop. After a raise of 1,650, Vanessa Selbst popped it up to 3,400 from the big blind. The player in the small blind plopped a giant stack comprised mostly of yellow 1,000-denomination chips into the middle, making it 15,275.

Selbst looked visibly distraught and confused at that move before announcing that she was all in. The player in the small blind called before saying "I think you've got me beat".

Selbst: {A-Spades}{J-Diamonds}
Opponent: {J-Hearts}{8-Hearts}

The board fell {2-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{9-Spades} and Selbst was able to send a player to the rail and become one of the top stacks in the room.

Cada's Kings Cracked, Hinkle Triples

Cada early on Day 1
Cada early on Day 1

2009 World Series of Poker Main Event Champion Joe Cada opened to 550 from under the gun, a player on the button called, and Blair Hinkle moved all in for 3,800 from the small blind. Cada re-shoved for 21,000, and the third opponent called all in for 9,975.

Cada: {k-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}
Opponent: {a-Hearts}{q-Spades}
Hinkle: {4-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}

Cada was in great shape to record a double knockout, until the flop came down {9-Spades}{a-Clubs}{6-Hearts}. The turn was a meaningless {10-Clubs}, but the {4-Spades} spiked on the river, giving Hinkle the best hand with a set of fours!

Cada was the only loser in the hand, while Hinkle more than tripled his stack.

A Wretchy Welcome for Rheem

Livello 3 : 75/150, 0 ante

Dan "Wretchy" Martin had just been moved to Chino Rheem's table when the two of them immediately tangled in a hand. We picked up the action after the {Q-Spades}{2-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} flop with Rheem (small blind, Seat 2) firing a bet. "We gonna do this all day?" asked Martin from across the table (hijack, seat 5) before making the call. That made the pot about 5,000.

The turn brought the {A-Hearts} and another bet from Rheem, this time for 3,800. Martin deliberated a bit and then called once again. The river was the {8-Clubs}. Rheem looked across the felt to gauge Martin's reaction to the river card, then looked down and eventually checked. Martin quickly fired a bet of 8,500, leaving himself just about 2,000 behind.

Rheem went into the tank, then emerged ready to talk about it. He went through aloud the possible hands Martin could have. "Lay it down man," said Martin. "You think I'm going to come in here and bluff you from the get-go?" "Yes," said Rheem steadily. "Yes, I do."

Rheem asked Martin if he'd show his hand if he folded. "Nah," said Martin with a grin. "I don't know how that would affect the table dynamic." They continued for a couple more minutes before Rheem finally sent his cards to the muck.

"C'mon Wretchy... show," said Rheem. "I'll tweet it later," laughed Martin, who began composing the message out loud: "Just moved to new table," he said. "Beat Chino in a big pot..."

Martin has about 24,000 now, while Rheem slips to 8,500. Those interested in more details might check in over @Wretchy. Just remember, though, Martin knows @ChinoRheem is reading, too.

Rousso Runs Into A Set

We caught up with the action to find a player all in for 7,450 on a board of {2-Spades}{8-Hearts}{3-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}. Vanessa Rousso was contemplating a call. Eventually she pushed out a stack to make the call. Her opponent turned up {8-Spades}{8-Diamonds} for a flopped set of eights, and Rousso mucked her cards.

Rousso took a hit with that hand but is still sitting above starting stack.

Hinkle Crippled

Blair Hinkle tripled no more than ten minutes ago, and now he is down to less than a thousand chips.

Hinkle was sitting in the small blind, and a player on the button opened the pot for standard raise. Hinkle three-bet to 1,300, his opponent four-bet to around 3,000, and Hinkle called.

The flop came down {j-Clubs}{10-Spades}{6-Spades}, and Hinkle checked to his opponent who fired 2,700. Hinkle check-jammed for around 10,000, and his opponent snapped it off.

Opponent: {q-Clubs}{q-Spades}
Hinkle: {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}

Hinkle needed an ace or a king, but received neither as the board ran {6-Hearts}, {9-Spades}.

Small Pots Here and There

Livello 3 : 75/150, 0 ante

We caught some small pots around the room. The first was a hand between Jason Mercier and Faraz Jaka. The flop had run out {q-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{7-Spades}. Mercier checked from the small blind, Faraz bet 600 from the button, and Mercier called. The {a-Spades} hit on the turn and both players checked. The river brought the {a-Hearts} and Mercier bet 225. Jaka called and Mercier held a {q-} to take down the pot with a pair of queens.

Another small pot was between Jeff Madsen and three other players. There was a raise to 425 preflop and we caught action with a flop of {q-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}. Both players in the blinds checked and Madsen bet 1,125 from under the gun. A player in middle position called and the other opponents folded. The {2-Hearts} hit on the turn and Madsen bet 3,125. His opponent folded and Madsen shipped the pot.
