Cousineau Lays Down

On the last hand of the last level, five players saw the flop of {J-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} in a limped pot. Phil Laak was first and checked to Tom Dwan. He checked and then David Ulliott checked. Sam Stein checked as well and then Tony Cousineau bet 8,000, which was the size of the pot. Laak raised the pot to 32,000 and Dwan folded. Ulliott folded and then Stein followed him into the muck. Cousineau tanked for a minute, but finally folded the {A-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}{J-Diamonds} face up.

Prepare yourself for some mental gymnastics. PLO is a gambler's game, and if you've ever wondered why it's called four-card bingo, this ought to explain it.

The hand started like any other. Dario Alioto opened to 5,200. Emil "whitelime" Patel called from middle position, and Aaron Schaff called from the hijack. David Ewing in the cutoff only had 29,800 and tried to go all in. But Patel pointed out that he could only raise to 29,000, so he took back his 800, laughing about how it was going to change everything. Then the small blind, EPT Grand Final winner Ivan Freitez, cold called, and things started to get interesting. Alioto called as well, putting the action to Patel. He surprised everyone by repotting, putting himself all in for around 140,000. Oh boy.

Schaff called all in for about 105,000 . Ewing tossed in his last 800. And all eyes were on Freitez, who had everyone but Alioto covered. After a minute of thought, Freitez moved all in as well. It was 158,400 for Alioto to call. With four people all in in front of him, he could only shrug and make the call.

By this point, half of the players left in the tournament were crowding around the table and everyone was shouting at the dealer about how best to pull in the chips and separate the side pots. Five minutes in, the dealer was still counting stacks. The players couldn't wait any longer for showdown and started flashing their cards to each other. Somehow, no one had aces. With the floor calling for calm and the crowd closing in on the table, it was finally time for showdown and a board.

Ewing: {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{8-Spades}{7-Hearts} - covered by everyone (5.84% to win main pot)*
Schaff: {8-Clubs}{7-Spades}{6-Spades}{5-Clubs} - covered by everyone but Ewing (22.01% to win main pot)*
Patel: {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} - covered by Freitez and Alioto (27.47% to win main pot)*
Freitez: {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{4-Clubs} - covered by Alioto (21.42% to win main pot)*
Alioto: {j-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{9-Spades} - (19.7% to win main pot)*

At long last, the flop came {a-Spades}{q-Clubs}{5-Spades}. Schaff was the only one with a spade draw, and Freitez hit two pair. The {4-Spades} on the turn gave Schaff a flush and Freitez a set of fours. He could scoop the whole thing if he hit a boat. The river was a total blank - the {2-Diamonds}. Schaff took the main pot and the smaller side pot, eliminating Ewing. Freitez took the rest, knocking out Patel. Alioto started shouting at the floor about needing to pay off an extra 20,000 to Freitez that wasn't in the pot. Finally the floor quieted him, the dust settled, and the chips were restacked.

Results:

David Ewing - eliminated
Emil Patel - eliminated
Aaron Schaff - 348,000
Ivan Freitez - 227,000
Dario Alioto - 351,000

Devilfish came over from the next table to add his two cents. "There's a cash game later, guys, and you're all invited."

Freitez Goes Bust

With the board reading {K-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{5-Hearts}, Aaron Schaff, Ivan Freitez and Dario Alioto were in action. Schaff was up first and checked before Freitez fired a bet of 20,000. Alioto made the call and Schaff also called.

The river was the {2-Diamonds} and Schaff checked. Freitez checked and then Alioto reached for chips. He bet 50,000. Schaff folded and Freitez went into the tank. After a minute, he made the call to put himself all in for 31,200.

"If you have a full house, you have it," said Freitez, showing just the {A-Clubs}{4-Clubs} from his hand for the wheel. Alioto didn't hold a full house, he held a higher straight with the {J-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}. Freitez mucked the rest of his hand and was eliminated from the tournament.

Two Pair Good for Schaff

Action folded to the hijack seat and that's where Dario Alioto was seated. He raised to 6,000 before Tom Marchese could make the call from the cutoff seat. In the small blind, Aaron Schaff made the call and then the player in the big blind also called.

All four players saw the flop come down {K-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} and action checked around to see the {2-Hearts} fall on the turn. Action checked through to Marchese, who was last to act on every street post flop. Marchese fired 17,500 and only Schaff made the call to see the river.

The river was the {10-Spades} and Schaff checked. Marchese also checked. Schaff announced that he had two pair and showed the {A-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}. Marchese mucked his hand and Schaff won the pot with eights and deuces.
