Schwartz Binks a Double

Livello 18 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Ylon Schwartz and Jonathan Spinks got all the chips in on sixth street and the hands looked like this:

Schwartz - {a-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} / {q-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}
Spinks - {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs} / {q-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{a-Spades}{9-Spades}

Schwartz needed a ten to survive, and amazingly binked the {10-Spades} on the river to make a straight to the queen. Spinks unhappily mucked his hand, falling to 133,000 chips, while Schwartz doubled to 70,000.

Day 2 Ends Short of the Final Table

Livello 18 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Alessio Isaia - Chip Leader
Alessio Isaia - Chip Leader

Day 2 of Event #5, the $1,500 stud, is in the books. After 10 levels of play, we are down to our final 12 players. Alessio Isaia will enter the final day in the chip lead with 232,500, with Eric Buchman (220,500) in second, and Eugene Katchalov (212,500) in third. Ylon Schwartz also survived the day with 70,000 after rivering a straight on one of the last hands of the night.

Isaia quietly climbed into the chip lead, not getting involved in too many big hands that we could tell. Buchman made some noise when he knocked out Andy Bloch in 14th place. Andy Bloch had a pair of eights on fourth street, but couldn’t beat Buchman’s fives and threes on fifth street.

We started the day with 103 players, and some of the many casualties before the money hit were Jason Mercier, Tom Dwan, Jerry Buss, Eric Baldwin, and Frank Kassela. The money bubble burst just 10 minutes after the dinner break, and Scott Seiver, Chad Brown, Brett Jungblut, and Bryan Devonshire, were amongst those who made the money but didn’t survive the day.

Shaun Deeb, who was amongst the chip leaders for virtually the entire tournament, fell just short of finishing the day in 15th place after two brutal coolers late in the night. First, Deeb’s A9-high flush was beat by Eugene Katchalov’s AK-high flush when both players got there on the river. Shortly after, Deeb made trip threes on fifth street, but lost when his opponent made trip queens on sixth.

Play will resume tomorrow at 3 p.m., where the next bracelet of the 2011 WSOP will be given out. Tomorrow will be an action packed day, as we will also have day 3 of the $5,000 no limit and day 2 of the $1,500 limit holdem and the $10,000 Pot Limit Holdem. In addition, we will have day 1a of the first $1,000 holdem tournament, which is sure to get a ton of entrants. Cards will be in the air all over the Rio, and the PokerNews team will be giving you updates throughout the entire day, so stay tuned!!
