Mortensen Lays It Down

Livello 9 : 300/600, 75 ante

Carlos Mortensen raised from middle position to 1,700 and a woman sitting to his left three-bet him to 4,500. It folded back around to Mortensen and he made the call.

The flop was {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{8-Clubs} and Mortensen checked. His opponent bet 5,400 and Mortensen called. The turn was the {9-Clubs} and again Mortensen checked before she led for 12,200. The river was the {3-Clubs}, completing a four flush, and Mortensen led out this time for 17,000. Mortensen's opponent thought for a bit before moving all in for 63,000. Mortensen had the chips counted out and ready to slide in but eventually opted to muck his hand. He slips to 70,000.

Alaei is Good

Livello 9 : 300/600, 75 ante

A player in early position opened to 1,700, and Daniel Alaei three-bet to 4,200. On the button, another player cold four-bet to 9,500, folding the initial raiser without incident. Alaei was undeterred though, shoving in for the 19,600 chips his opponent had left. The call came, and Alaei was in good shape.

Showdown
Alaei: {A-Diamonds} {10-Clubs}
Opponent: {7-Clubs} {8-Clubs}

The flop came {A-Clubs} {9-Diamonds} {5-Diamonds} to put Mr. Opponent in a big hole, but he did have four outs to the gutterball to try and chase down. The turn {2-Spades} was a blank though, and the {4-Hearts} on the river was not the six he was looking for. Alaei sends one to the rail, upping his count to about 87,000 in the process.

Veldhuis Puts Him In

Livello 10 : 400/800, 100 ante

Under the gun, a player threw his last, lonely, yellow T1,000 chip into the pot. That's a call, and the simple mistake drew a pretty good chuckle from the rest of the table. Nick Maimone called as well, and Lex Veldhuis announced, "Protection," as he raised to 2,800. The under-the-gun player verbally called the extra 200 chips to put himself at risk, and Maimone called the raise as well.

The board ran out {K-Clubs} {7-Diamonds} {10-Hearts} {10-Spades} {4-Clubs}, and the two live players checked to the river. On the final street, Veldhuis made a motion to bet, and Maimone mucked. Veldhuis tabled {Q-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs}, and it earned him the pot, the knockout, and a chip increase to about 79,000.

Smith Doubles

Livello 10 : 400/800, 100 ante

Which Smith, you ask? Gavin Smith.

With a raise to 1,900 and a call in front of him, he shoved from late position for 25,600. However, it didn't fold around. The player in the big blind moved his stack in for more than Smith's raise. The two other players folded and Smith was flipping for his tournament life.

Smith: {a-Hearts}{q-Spades}
Opponent: {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds}

Right on the flop, Smith got what he was looking for when it ran out {k-Spades}{q-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}. The turn was the {5-Diamonds} and left his opponent drawing to just two outs. The river {4-Spades} bricked and Smith is up to 57,000.

Seeing Double

The Davids Baker
The Davids Baker

Our world just took an upside-down turn when we walked by Table 23. David Baker has been sitting there for a while, and he was just joined by David Baker. What in the world?

When he saw us staring with our mouths gaping, David "ODB" Baker spoke up. "Feel free to reverse our chip counts," he said with a smirk. He's sitting with just 9,600 now to the 75,000 or so that "Bakes" has piled in front of him.

Trigg Bisects Kabrhel

Livello 10 : 400/800, 100 ante

We didn't walk up until the money was already going in on the flop, but we'll tell you what we know. The board showed {Q-Clubs} {10-Clubs} {8-Clubs} after the first burn, and Martin Kabrhel was already all in when we approached. Richard Trigg got his last 41,300 into the middle as well, and a third player was deep in the tank considering the big call. After some time, he surrendered, showing {10-Hearts} {10-Diamonds} as he did.

Kabrhel showed up {8-Diamonds} {8-Spades} for a set of his own, but Trigg had flopped the world with {A-Clubs} {J-Clubs}. Somewhere, Norman Chad just bolted upright out of a deep sleep yelling, "Royal flush draw!" He didn't need any more help, though as the turn and river came {6-Spades} and {7-Hearts} to keep his flush in front.

With that big pot, Martin Kabrhel is dashed down to just 2,800 chips while Trigg leapfrogs to the head of the class with about 108,000.
