Who'll be standing next to Jack Effel in three days' time?

It's another balmy evening here in Sin City, but the PokerNews Live Reporting Team are feeling the full blast of the industrial-strength air conditioning here inside the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino, gearing up for the 52nd event of the 2011 WSOP.

Last year's $2,500 Mixed Hold'em (Limit/Hold'em) tournament attracted 453 runners, with 38-year-old Norwegian Sigurd Eskeland taking down the gold bracelet and the $260,497 first prize.

The field included some of poker's finest, with names like Todd Brunson, Alexander Kravchenko, Jose Ignacio Barbero, Dario Minieri, Kirk Morrison, Bill Chen and John D'Agostino. With the upswinging trend in these WSOP side events, don't be surprised if we get even bigger numbers for this tournament tonight.

So, without further ado, sit back, relax and keep on pressing F5 for all the updates from 5pm PST (GMT -7), right here on PokerNews! Let's do it!

Fricke's Up Early

Livello 1

No Limit Hold'em

On a flop that read {A-Spades}{3-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}, the player in the cutoff bet out 650 and Jimmy Fricke called before both players checked the {8-Spades} on the turn. Fricke then called the cutoff's bet of 800 on the river of the {Q-Hearts} and the cutoff tabled {a-}{6-}, which was no good against Fricke's {A-Clubs}{J-Spades}.

Fricke is up to 9,700 after that hand.

Stacked!

Livello 1

And no, we're not talking about Daniel Negreanu's 2006 poker video game, although he is present at the table. Tons of notable names are seated around table #109 including Daniel Negreanu, Hoyt Corkins, Ronnie Bardah, Jennifer "Jennicide" Leigh, Phil Laak, and Rep Porter. It will be interesting to see how play develops and who will end up felting who as the evening wears on.

Matros Outkicked

No Limit Hold'em

We caught up with the action when the board read {K-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} to see Matt Matros push out a bet of 250 from the small blind. His opponent in the big blind called while the other two players in the hand mucked their cards.

The river came {3-Clubs} and Matros continued his aggression, betting out 725. His opponent thought for roughly thirty-seconds before throwing out a call. Matros tabled {Q-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} for a pair of queens, but his opponent flipped up {Q-Spades}{J-Diamonds} for a one-better kicker. The pot was pushed toward Matros' opponent while Matros took a small hit early.

Jacks for Fricke

No Limit Hold'em

With the board reading {7-Spades}{8-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}, Jimmy Fricke shot out a bet of 525 and the player on the button made the call. The {5-Hearts} came on the river and Fricke pushed out a bet worth 1,000. His opponent tanked before finally making the call, only to see Fricke turn over {J-Hearts}{J-Clubs}. Fricke's opponent mucked his cards while saying "You're getting some big hands early", to Fricke. Big hands or not, Fricke is managing to build his stack early on.

Affleck Wins a Small One

No Limit Hold'em

A player in late position raised to 300, action then folded around to the blinds where Matt Affleck, and Adam "Roothlus" Levy sat. Both the blinds called and were awarded a flop.

The cards came out {A-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{2-Hearts} and both Affleck and Levy checked. The player in late position fired out 150 and Affleck was kind enough to give a call while Levy opted to fold.

Both players checked the {6-Hearts} turn. There was then a repeat of action with the {6-Clubs} as they both checked again. Affleck solemnly flipped over {A-Clubs}{J-Clubs} for a pair of aces and his opponent mucked.
