Mirzikinian on the Move

Limit Hold'em

On a flop of {A-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{5-Clubs}, Warwick Mirzikinian checked to his opponent who opened the betting. Mirzikinian called, then both players checked down the turn of the {3-Clubs} and the river {J-Diamonds}, but the opponent mucked after Mirzikinian showed {K-Spades}{5-Spades}.

The Aussie high roller is now up more than 25,000 in chips.

Negreanu Loses Chips

Limit Hold'em

A player in the UTG +1 position raised, but the neighbor to his left, Daniel Negreau, re-raised. The action then folded around to the UTG +1 player and he called before leading out on the flop of {5-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{5-Clubs}.

Negreanu called, then the UTG +1 bet again on the turn of the {J-Diamonds}. Negreanu raised, the UTG +1 player snap-shoved and Negreanu insta-called.

Negreanu: {9-Spades}{9-Clubs}
UTG +1: {A-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}

Even though Negreanu rivered a full house with the {9-Diamonds}, the UTG +1 player's full house was best and he doubled up, leaving Negreanu with less than 9,000 in chips.

Kings Are Good For Matusow

Limit Hold'em

A player raised in late position and Mike Matsow made the call. The flop came down {9-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{8-Spades} and the player continued out with a bet. Matusow raised and the player three-bet all in. Matusow made the call, turning up {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds} which was ahead of his opponent's {A-Spades}{J-Clubs}. The turn and river came {9-Clubs}{7-Hearts} and Matusow sent one to the rail.

Sitting directly behind Matusow was Allen Kessler who was holding a conversation with Matusow throughout the hand about the structure of this tournament. Kessler pointed out that one could stall in the game they don't like and angleshoot to get the blinds or buttons in the game they prefer. He suggested that the tournament not switch games based on time, but rather on number of hands played of each game. After scooping his pot, Matusow agreed.

"We're playing 400/800 and average stack is what? 8,000?" asked Matusow with a laugh. "I'll be willing to bet we have under a hundred players by the end of the night".

Regardless of the structure of the tournament, the late registration period is about to end soon so we'll find out exactly how many people are left in this tournament and how quickly they begin to drop.

Ainsworth Sent Home

Limit Hold'em

Action opened when a player from under the gun raised preflop. Joseph Cheong three-bet from middle position and Juse Ainsworth made it 1,600 from the small blind. The big blind called along with the player under the gun, Cheong, and Ainsworth.

The flop came {10-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{5-Spades} and Ainsworth bet out and was called by all three other players. The turn brought the {4-Hearts} and Ainsworth moved all in for 75 more and was called by all three players once again. The {A-Hearts} rivered and the big blind checked to the player under the gun who fire out one more bet. Cheong folded and the big blind folded.

The player under the gun showed {Q-Hearts}{J-Hearts} for a flush and Ainsworth tabled {A-Spades}{J-Clubs} for merely a pair of aces. Ainsworth was sent to the rail while his opponent scooped a nice sized pot.

A Small Pot to Dwan

No Limit Hold'em

In one of the earliest pots we've seen since the slow start from the break, the action folded around to Tom Dwan who limped in from the small blind; the big blind player checked, but then it was an uneventful check all the way down the board of {7-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}{6-Hearts} before Dwan rolled up {J-Spades}{8-Hearts} for a pair. His opponent mucked his hand and Dwan scooped the pot.

Bellande Behind

No Limit Hold'em

We caught up to see a short stack move all in and Jean-Robert Bellande move all in over the top. Everyone else at the table folded their cards and the hands were exposed:

Bellande: {Q-Hearts}{10-Hearts}
Opponent: {Q-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}

The board gave Bellande hope to win the pot when it brought two hearts, falling {6-Hearts}{K-Clubs}{K-Hearts}, but unfortunately for him the turn and river were unwilling to oblige. They fell {2-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} and Bellande lost the pot, knocking him down to around 1,800.
