Event #54: $1,000 No-Limit Hold’em

Giorno 1a iniziato

The Last of the $1Ks

Welcome to the last $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em event of the summer. Today's Day 1a field, which will be combined with tomorrow's Day 1b field, is set to be a massive one. PokerNews' coverage of this event will begin after the first break, or about 2:20 PM PT.

Last year, Marcel Vonk won the last of the $1,000 events and took home $570,960 for beating out a field of 3,844 players. Day 1a alone had 2,340 players, which is much the expectation today. While you wait for our coverage to start, check out the June 2nd update from our very own Sarah Grant. And yes, those are earings, not hula hoops.

Navigating the Minefield

These $1,000 buy-ins are notorious for the fast action and crazy hands; after all, the smaller starting stacks and increasing blinds pretty much force the action. In our latest pass through the Pavilion Room, we literally saw some four players bust with pocket aces. Needless today, it is a minefield out there.

The Master Gets Schooled

We're unsure of the bet sizes, but after a flop of {k-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} we know David Galo bet out from the small blind and the player in the hijack raised only to have Men "The Master" Nguyen push all in for 2,000 total. Both the other players called and Galo was the only one not at risk of elimination.

Nguyen: {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs} (ace-high flush draw)
Hijack: {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts} (pair of kings)
Galo {6-Spades}{6-Hearts} (set of sixes)

Galo's hand was in the lead and both the other players would need help to stay alive but the turn and river brought the {q-Diamonds} and {q-Hearts} giving Galo a boat and the other two the boot.
