Event #7: $10,000 Pot-Limit Hold'em Championship

Giorno 3 iniziato

Day 3 Will See 27 Reduce to One . . . Hopefully!

McLean Karr begins the day third in chips.
McLean Karr begins the day third in chips.

Last night we were scheduled to play to a final table in the $10,000 Pot Limit Hold’em Championship; however, the calculated and patient play of the players made is so we just cracked the money at the final 27. Today, those players will return in an attempt to play down to a winner, who’ll claim the first $10K Championship bracelet of the series and the $573,456 first-place prize.

The player best positioned to do just that is Stephen Chidwick, who emerged as the chip leader at the end of Day 2 with 697,000. Joining him are some stiff competition that includes McLean Karr (593,000), Amir Lehavot (628,000), Jarred Solomon (447,000), and Jason DeWitt (447,000), who all sit atop the leaderboard. In addition, notables Nicolas Levi (392,000), Robert Mizrachi (426,000) and Mike Matusow (85,000) all remain on Day 3.

The plan for the day is to play to a winner, but in all likelihood, we’ll probably play ten levels and hit the hard-stop time before that happens. Our best guess is we’ll make it down to five or six players and then return on Monday to play it out, but we’ll have to wait and see if that prove accurate. The PokerNews Live Reporting Team is stationed in the Amazon Room and is ready to bring you all the action and eliminations from the $10,000 Pot Limit Hold’em Championship. Day 3 is set to begin at 3:00 PM PST, so check back then for all the latest.

In the meantime, here is a look at the seating assignments and chip stacks heading into Day 3:

Tilly Finds Pocket Rockets

Chris Moorman was under the gun and raised to 21,000. which Robert Mizrachi called from early position. When action reached Jennifer Tilly in the cutoff, she put in a reraise to 99,000. Moorman repotted, Mizrachi folded, and Tilly called off her remaining chips.

Moorman: {A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}
Tilly: {A-Clubs}{A-Hearts}

Moorman had a good hand, but Tilly had better. The {J-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} flop changed little, but the {K-Spades} turn gave Moorman a gut-shot Broadway straight. The dealer burned and put out the {7-Spades}. It was a blank as far as Moorman was concerned and Tilly received an early double.

Nenad Medic Eliminated in 25th Place ($20,129)

Nenad Medic, who won this very event back in 2008 for $794,112, began the day as one of the shorter stacks and had his work cut out for him. In a recent hand, Medic raised from the hijack only to have Owen Crowe reraise from the small blind. Medic called off his remaining chips and discovered he was in bad shape.

Medic: {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds}
Crowe: {J-Spades}{J-Hearts}

Medic's best hope to stay alive was to catch a ten, but the {5-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} flop did not deliver. The {J-Clubs} turn left Medic drawing dead as the {4-Clubs} was put out on the river. Medic was eliminated from the tournament in 25th place.

Big Slick for Traniello

McLean Karr raised to 22,000 under the gun only to have Marco Traniello move all in for 42,000 total in the small blind. Karr made the call and found he was behind.

Karr: {A-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}
Traniello: {A-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}

The {2-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{2-Spades} flop was fairly uninteresting, but we're sure Traniello was relieved to see the {K-Spades} hit the turn to ensure his double. The meaningless {4-Spades} was put out on the river as Mr. Jen Harman doubled his short stack.

Early Double for Matusow

After Nicolas Levi raised to 23,000 from the hijack, Mike "The Mouth" Matusow reraised from the small blind to get all in for his last 79,000. Levi made the call.

Levi: {K-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}
Matusow: {A-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}

Matusow was ahead with his ace, which he paired on the {A-Spades}{5-Spades}{6-Diamonds} flop to take a commanding lead. The {7-Spades} turn and {2-Spades} river changed nothing as "The Mouth" doubled through Levi.

Noah Schwartz Eliminated in 24th Place ($20,129)

Noah Schwartz - 24th place
Noah Schwartz - 24th place

Marco Traniello has been on quite a tear here in the first level of the day. He recently raised from early position and received a single caller in Noah Schwartz from the big blind. Both players checked the {7-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} flop, as they did the {9-Clubs} turn.

When the {10-Diamonds} appeared on the river, Schwartz led out for 20,000, Traniello raised all in, and Schwartz called off for less. Schwartz revealed {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} for a full house, but it was no good against the bigger {K-Spades}{K-Hearts} full house of Traniello. Schwartz has been eliminated from the $10K PLH Championship in 24th place.
