Steve "Cuz" Buckner joins Chad Holloway and Jesse Fullen for the third episode of The Chad & Jesse Poker Show. They talk about crazy jobs Cuz used to hold, how Cuz found himself in Vegas just weeks after watching poker for the first time, and his 2023 WSOP plans.
Bill Klein opened to 180,000 from early position and was called by Justin Bonomo in the cutoff as well as Anton Morgenstern on the button.
Action checked to Morgenstern on a flop of 6♥4♥10♥ and he bet out for 250,000. Neither of his opponents was going anywhere as they both called to keep action three-handed heading to the turn.
The turn came 9♣, prompting Klein and Bonomo to check once again. Morgenstern did not slow down, instead making it 600,000 to go. Klein responded by moving all in for around 2,800,000, getting a quick fold from Bonomo and sending Morgenstern deep into the tank.
After burning through one time extension, Morgenstern laid down his hand to take a hit to his stack and send some chips back towards Klein after the latter's failed bluff attempt against Bonomo.
There was heads-up action on a K♥3♣4♣ flop between Justin Bonomo, who checked from the small blind, and Bill Klein who bet 90,000 from late position.
Bonomo raised to 300,000 and Klein fired back with a three-bet to 850,000. Bonomo called.
The turn was the 3♦ and Bono check-called a 375,000 bet from Klein.
Bonomo checked again on the A♥ river and Klein used one time extension chip before firing a bet of 700,000. Bonomo called.
"Good call" Klein said, tabling 7♠6♠ for a missed gutshot straight draw. Bonomo showed K♦Q♣ for two pair, kings and threes and was awarded a massive pot for the gutsy bluff-catch.
Philip Sternheimer moved all in for his last 505,000 on the button and was called by Seth Davies in the big blind.
Philip Sternheimer: A♥7♠
Seth Davies: Q♣J♦
Sternheimer was marginally ahead with his ace high holding but fell way behind on the 6♣Q♦J♠ flop. The 3♥ turn left him needing an ace on the river but the Q♥ ended his run in tenth place. With his elimination, the final table of nine has been set.
Anton Morgenstern and Chris Brewer were all in preflop from the small and big blind respectively, with Morgenstern having the covering stack and putting Brewer at risk.
Chris Brewer: 10♠10♥
Anton Morgernstern: K♠Q♠
The board ran out 3♣K♣8♦5♠5♣. Morgernstern had flopped top pair to pull way ahead of Brewer, who could not find any outs on the turn or river and was sent to the rail as a result.
Elsewhere, Cary Katz was also eliminated in 13th place and will receive $102,479.
For Phil Hellmuth, whose 16 bracelets (and counting) may never be touched, one of those perks is his own personal break room at Horseshoe Las Vegas. That's a nice benefit especially on 90-minute dinner breaks.
Hellmuth granted PokerNews access to his small but intimate break room, which is in an undisclosed location. "Don't disclose the location. I don't need fans knocking on the door seeking autographs while I'm trying to rest," the Poker Hall of Famer joked.
