Justin Bonomo

There will be at least 47 players returning for Day 2 of Event #23: $50,000 High Roller No-Limit Hold’em (8-Handed). Day 1 saw a total of 111 entrants, already more than the 101 entrants this event attracted last year. More are expected to come with late registration being open until the start of play today.

Justin Bonomo leads the field going into Day 2 as the only player with more than two million chips, bagging an impressive 2,024,000 to end the day yesterday.

Not far behind Bonomo is Talal Shakerchi who ended Day 1 with 1,688,000. Chris Brewer rounds out the top 3 with 1,618,000. Both Brewer and Shakerchi will be seeking their first World Series of Poker gold bracelet win in this event while Bonomo is vying for his fourth. Other notables near the top of the leaderboard include Sam Soverel (1,450,000), Chance Kornuth (1,313,000) and Alex Foxen (1,236,000).

Action will begin at 12:00 p.m. today with the blinds resuming at 8,000/16,000 and a 16,000 big blind ante. Any player choosing to register before the start of play today will begin with a 300,000 starting stack worth just under 19 big blinds.

Levels will be 60 minutes in length with a 15-minute break after every two levels. There is a scheduled 60-minute dinner break after six levels of play and the day will conclude after ten levels. The winner will be crowned on Day 3 tomorrow, Sunday, June 11th, on the PokerGO live stream.

Stay tuned as the Pokernews live reporting team will be there to cover all the action and will be bringing you live updates as the tournament progresses.

Arends Doubles Through Moncek

Livello 9 : Blinds 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante

Jans Arends opened to 32,000 from middle position and Micahel Moncek defended from the big blind.

Moncek check-called a 21,000 bet from Arends on the JK7 flop.

The players checked the 10 turn leading to the A on the river. Michael Moncek moved all in to put Arends at risk.

Arends quickly called and tabled QJ for the nut straight. Moncek flashed a Jack before throwing his cards into the muck.

Man of the People: How Daniel Negreanu Bagged Top 4 Stack on $300 Gladiator Day 1a

Livello 9 : Blinds 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante
Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

When it comes to the World Series of Poker (WSOP), six-time bracelet winner Daniel Negreanu is typically found in bigger buy-in events. He’s among poker’s elite often competing for $25K Fantasy and Player of the Year points, and buy-ins in excess of $10,000 give him the best chance at both, not to mention his first bracelet since 2013.

For instance, he finished 22nd in Event #2: $25,000 High Roller Six-Handed NLH for $50,000, though he failed to bag Day 1 of Event #23: $50,000 High Roller (8-Handed) after firing two bullets.

However, on Wednesday after busting early on Day 2 of Event #16: $25,000 High Roller, “Kid Poker” opted to become a man of the people by hopping into Day 1a of Event #18: $300 Gladiators of Poker, which boasted a $3 million guarantee.
