Despite the traffic carnage outside, an incredible 4,375 players showed up for Day 1b, creating a combined field of 8,318 and generating a prize pool of $12,477,000. From Day 1b, 1,473 players made it to Day 2 to create a combined field of 2,715 returning players.

On top of the chip counts is Turkish crusher Tinay Aksoy, who bagged 795,000 in chips. Other big stacks making it through are Christian Buerger with 735,000, Kathy Liebert with 575,000, Dylan Lambe with 506,500, and Toni Le Blanc with 590,000.

Among the notables to bag was Veronica Brill, who created a jovial atmosphere at her table all day long.

Set Good for Kusumowidagdo

Livello 9 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante
Justin Kusumowidagdo

The under-the-gun player opened to 2,500 and only Justin Kusumowidagdo called from middle position.

The flop came out AQ2 and the under-the-gun continued for 2,300 but then Kusumowidagdo raised it up to 6,900.

His opponent made the call and the duo went to the 3, which now saw a continuation from Kusumowidagdo for 16,000 which the under-the-gun player calls.

On the river 9, Kusumowidagdo fired again for 40,000 and his opponent went deep into the tank, saying that he missed diamonds but made the call anyway. He was then shown 22 by Kusumowidagdo for a flopped set of deuces to scoop the huge pot, putting him over the 200,000 mark.

Jason Koon's Stack Pulled from WSOP $250K Super High Roller as Wife Enters Labor

Livello 4 : Blinds 300/500, 500 ante
Jason Koon
Jason Koon

Even though Jason Koon bagged Day 1 of Event #40: $250,000 Super High Roller at the 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP), he will not be joining the other High Rollers for Day 2. The high-stakes star had his stack pulled from the largest buy-in event of the summer after he received word that his wife was in labor with their second child just in time for Father's Day.

Koon, who bagged a stack of 1,740,000 — a little more than the starting stack of 1,500,000 — will be fully refunded for his $250,000 entry, according to WSOP officials.

"Prior to the end of registration in event 40 with more than a starting stack, entrant Jason Koon requested a void and refund so as to accompany his wife to the hospital who had gone into labor," WSOP told PokerNews. "Request was granted. Issuing a refund before the end of registration is clearly within the discretion of tournament officials and common practice at WSOP. We wish Jason Koon and all our WSOP dads a happy Father's Day."

Ben Valder
Ben Valder

Ben Valder was heads-up on a completed board of Q101086 when his opponent checked to him.

"I gotta show off for PokerNews!" he joked as he slid out a bet of 4,000 into the pot of 9,000, sending his opponent into the tank.

"Ughh ok one second, I am probably calling, my friend," his opponent replied in thick Italian accent.

"Hey, no worries, take your time, we've got hour levels, baby!" Valder reassured him.

"Ok, I changed my mind, you win!" his opponent said as he folded his cards to award Valder the pot.

"Ahh, come on! How am I supposed to provide for my family now?" Valder laughed as he raked in the pot.
