The RunGood Poker Series $800 Main Event at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tulsa, Oklahoma has seen all of its flights run their course. 398 players entered into the final two flights of this event, putting the total number of entrants at 558, smashing the $100,000 prize pool guarantee with a new total of $390,600. Out of these entrants, only 69 found themselves a bag for Day 2, each one of them securing a min-cash.

Kansas resident Mark Martin bagged up the largest late-night stack to finish Day 1c, and will enter Sunday's final day sitting fifth overall in the chip count. Right behind Martin were Chris Baumhoer and Luke Frazier, who will both bring top 10 stacks into Day 2.

Leading the tournament is Todd Nichols, bagging an impressive 619,000 chips in Day 1b. He is followed by Day 1a leader Zachary Smith, who collected 608,000 chips in his bag.

Not all were fortunate enough to see tomorrow, as many including Will Berry, Daniel “Donk” Hughes, Kasey Mills, Michael Lech, and WSOP Main Event Champion Scotty Nguyen all found their hopes of a RGPS Tulsa Main Event Title dashed on this trip. Defending Tulsa Champion Tyler Barnes also met an early end when his ace-four offsuit fell to Forrest Kollar's pocket kings.

Flight 1a ended earlier than the following two flights. Play ended and 11:42 was left in level 14 with blinds at 3,000/6,000 and a 6,000 big blind ante. The 69 surviving players will start play again on Sunday, January 21 at high noon in the poker room. The levels will continue to be 40-minute blinds, with a 15-minute break after every three levels, with play continuing until a new champion is crowned.

Defending Champion Tyler Barnes moved all in preflop and was quickly called by Forrest Kollar to put him at risk.

Barnes flipped over A4 while Kollar tabled a superior holding of KK.

A four appeared on the flop of 4610 to give Barnes increased outs along with his ace, but the runout of J2 did not provide for him and he was sent to the rail.

RunGood Poker Series
RunGood Poker Series

Starting with this weekend's stop in Tulsa, the RunGood Poker Series is taking Destination RunGood on the road to 11 different stops throughout the first half of 2024.

“Destination RunGood is more than just a theme; it's an invitation for players to experience poker as a way to explore the country,” said RGPS CEO Tana Karn. “We've carefully curated the Spring Season to deliver excitement, camaraderie, and unparalleled competition."

After Tulsa wraps up, players can join the tour in San Diego in February before they move on to one of its oldest stops in Tunica. From Tunica it's on to Jacksonville, where the tour debuted last year, and then regular stops in Joplin and Council Bluffs before it returns to Reno and St. Louis in late April.

The tour's final swing will take it to Bay Area-favorite Graton Casino and then Kansas City before the Season Finale at Thunder Valley in July.

Key Highlights of the 2024 Spring Season:

  • Eleven Tour Stops Nationwide: The RGPS tour will span across eleven locations, bringing the thrill of tournament poker to cities from the East Coast to the West. Players can look forward to a top-notch experience with unforgettable moments.
  • Newly Designed Event Rings: In a nod to the significance of achievement, RunGood has completed newly designed Destination RunGood rings that will be awarded to event winners at each tour stop. These rings symbolize excellence and the competitive spirit that sets the RunGood Poker Series apart.
  • Dream Seat Invitational by PokerGO: Back by popular demand, the Dream Seat Invitational by PokerGO will return for the 2024 season. This exclusive event invites 2024 ring winners from all over to participate for a seat to represent the best of the best of the tour at the PGT Championship Freeroll at the PokerGO Studio.

Brian Winter Leads RGPS Player of the Year Race

Livello 14 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Brian Winter
Brian Winter

Last time in Tulsa, Brian Winter won the Flip 'n' Go ring event before he jumped into the Pot Limit Omaha ring event with just moments left in registration. He went on to win that tournament and claim his second ring of the afternoon.

Winter’s other 2023 RGPS rings include a win in the One Day Ring Event in St. Louis, two events in Tunica, and a $16,760 prize in the $250 Deepstack in last January’s Tulsa event.

The big year gives Winter a sizable lead in the RGPS Player of the Year Race, which will run in partnership with the Global Poker Index.

How it works:

  • Leaderboard Points: Players will score points based on their performance in RunGood Poker Series events by the Global Poker Index ranking system.
  • Five Winners: The tally started on August 29, 2023, and ends June 1, 2024. The top five players on the leaderboard will win a seat in the 2024 Hendon Mob Mid-Major Championship and a $500 travel stipend.
  • Immortality: The top player will be featured forever on tour with a RunGood Player of the Year banner.

Emery Shoves with Cowboys

Shaun Emery
Shaun Emery

The player in late position opened to 12,000 and was then immediately three-bet to 28,000 by Shaun Emery in the cutoff. The button got out of the way and then Doug Paxton in the small blind put in the four-bet to 57,000. Action got back to the original raiser who moved all in for slightly more, but then Emery jammed over the top, covering Paxton who went into the tank.

After thinking about it for around 30 seconds, he decided to let it go and the other two tabled their cards.

Shaun Emery: KK

The board runs out 5658J for Emery's kings to hold and he was awarded the substantial pot, while his opponent made his exit.

"Nice hand, sir, I threw away ace-king there," Paxton said as he gave Emery a fist-bump.
