Event #11, Day 1
Matt Hawrilenko is doing some good work early, sitting with about 39,000 right now. On the last hand, we picked up a four-way flop as the dealer spread . Hawrilenko called a bet to go heads up to the turn, and he raised when the bettor fired again. His opponent called the extra bet, then check-called a river bet, too.
Hawrilenko tabled , the nut high, and his opponent mucked his inferior high cards.
Our early front-runner for toughest table in town has filled in with all nine seats occupied. And it didn't get any easier as Robert Mizrachi sat down in the last open seat. Check out the lineup over at Table 132:
Seat | Player |
---|---|
1 | John Monnette |
2 | Chad Brown |
3 | Some Poor Gentleman |
4 | Alessio Isaia |
5 | Will Failla |
6 | Shannon Shorr |
7 | Robert Mizrachi |
8 | Humberto Brenes |
9 | Eric Buchman |
A player in the cutoff limped in, and Vanessa Selbst put in two bets from the big blind. Her opponent called. The dealer delivered a flop of , and Selbst led out. Her opponent called.
The trend continued on the turn (), but after the fell on the river, Selbst fired a third bullet and her opponent released. The PokerStars Team Pro raked in the pot and is now slightly above the average stack.
We're seeing double.
David Baker and David Baker are both sitting at one of the tables near the rail. At the same table. Like that won't get confusing. We've taken to using the tag "Bakes" for the younger of the two Bakers, the one who won a bracelet in the $10,000 2-7 event last year. He also cashed in this event in 2010, taking home 15th-place money before Sam Farha eventually won the whole thing.
The other David Baker will be just plain, old David Baker, though there's nothing plain (or old) about him. Call him "ODB" if you will. The Original David Baker has more than $1.7 million in career earnings and four WSOP final tables to his credit. He also cashed in two $10,000 Championship events last year.
If your name is David Baker, you're a favorite to win this Omaha Hi-Lo event.
This just in from Mike Matusow: "LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, IT'S THE 125/250 LEVEL!"
Thank you Mr. Matusow.

Shannon Shorr and Alessio Isaia just quartered each other in a three-way showdown a moment ago.
The board read , and Isaia was leading the betting when we walked up to the turn. Shorr called, Humberto Brenes did too, and John Monnette made it four-handed to the river. Isaia bet one last time, and only Monnette ducked out.
Shorr:
Isaia:
Brenes:
Shorr and Isaia both had the nut low, and Brenes' baby two pair was good enough to give him the high half of the pot and work his way back to about 27,000 after some early splashing around.
A couple days ago, Francesco Barbaro took down the other Omaha Hi-Lo event, the $1,500-buyin Event #4. He's in our Championship field too, sitting with Jason Mercier at the farthest corner table. Mercier's bracelet came in Pot-Limit Omaha in 2008, so maybe he can learn a thing or two from Barbaro today.
Six players saw a flop including John Monnette, Chad Brown, Shannon Shorr, Robert Mizrachi, Humberto Brenes and Eric Buchman. The dealer fanned , and Buchman bet out from the small blind. Shorr was his only caller.
The turn was the , and Buchman led out again. Shorr called. Buchman led again after the came on the river, but Shorr cried "uncle," folding his hand.
