Set for Stern

Livello 10 : 2,000/4,000, 0 ante

With a flurry of bustouts in the last few minutes we found Dani Stern and Michael Pesek getting it all in preflop. Stern tabled pocket sevens and Pesek had two overs with {A-Diamonds} {8-Spades}.

The flop cemented Stern's lead when it ran {7-Spades} {10-Hearts} {2-Diamonds} giving Stern a set. Pesek needed runner, runner to stay alive, but missed when the board completed {4-Clubs} {K-Hearts}.

Kojo Catches Katchalov

Livello 10 : 2,000/4,000, 0 ante

Kunimaro Kojo and Eugene Katchalov saw a flop of {3-Spades}{2-Clubs}{9-Hearts} and quickly had all of their chips in the middle. Katchalov showed the {Q-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} for top pair and a strong kicker, but found himself trailing the two pair of Kojo, who held {2-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}. The turn was the {K-Spades} and Katchalov was down to five outs to stay alive. The {5-Clubs} on the river was a blank and Kojo advanced to Round 3.

Tran: {6-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}
Juanda: {7-Spades}{5-Clubs}

The turn and river were no help to John Juanda and Kenny Tran doubled up to 153,000.

No Momentum For Dwan

Livello 10 : 2,000/4,000, 0 ante

Tom Dwan has been unable to gain any serious momentum against opponent Byrn Kenney, with most hands amounting to raise-it-and-take-it for the majority of level 10. Dwan's stack currently hovers around 90,000.

Esfandiari Loses Huge Coinflip on River Before Bowing Out in 2nd Round

Livello 10 : 2,000/4,000, 0 ante
Max Lykov
Max Lykov

Maxim Lykov limped in on the button for 3,000 and Antonio Esfandiari raised to 18,000, prompting an all-in declaration by the Russian. Esfandiari snap-called and flipped over the {J-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}, while Lykov tabled the {A-Spades}{Q-Hearts}. The Magician managed to fade Lykov's outs through the turn, with the board showing {6-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}. When the dealer turned over the {Q-Diamonds} on the river, however, Esfandiari gasped "No!" before telling the dealer "you gotta do it on the flop, it hurts so much less when it comes on the flop."

Esfandiari was eliminated soon after when he shoved all-in over a minimum raise by Lykov. Esfandiari's {J-}{8-} was far behind Lykov's {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds} and when an Ace high board moved Lykov on to the Round of 32.

Hansen Moves on to Round of 32

Livello 10 : 2,000/4,000, 0 ante
Gus Hansen
Gus Hansen

Gus Hansen is the next player to progress to tomorrow's round of 32 players. The final hand took place when Greg Brooks completed from the button and Hansen checked. The flop fell down {K-Clubs}{K-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}. Hansen threw out a bet of 3,000 and Brooks popped it up to 8,000. Hansen made the call.

The {5-Clubs} fell on the turn and it went check-check. The {8-Diamonds} came on the river and Hansen led out for 16,100. After some posturing, Brooks fired back, making it 53,300. Hansen then moved Brooks all in for his remaining roughly 28,000. It was at this point that the deliberation began.

Brooks sat thinking in silence for about five minutes. Finally Brooks said "I'm curious what you think I have". The deliberation continued for about two more minutes until Brooks stuck all of his chips in the middle.

Hansen turned over the {K-Spades}{8-Spades} for kings over eights, and a dejected Brooks slapped his {5-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} on the table for a lower full house.

Hansen, the victor of last year's WSOPE £10,000 Heads-Up Championship, is now continuing his head-to-head domination in 2011. If Hansen can continue taking command of five more matches, he will be able to add another heads-up bracelet to his name.
