Play has now finished for the day with around 127 players remaining from the initial 168 who started. WSOP Main Event runner-up John Racener looks to be the chip leader with 95,200 just ahead of Akio Ishii (90,400).

Other players who finished strongly include: $10,000 Stud 3rd place finisher Maxwell Troy (88,000), David Benyamine (82,200), Brandon Cantu and Felipe Ramos (both 80,000 exactly) and Allen Kessler (79,500).

We lost a number of big names today including former POY and winner of this event last year Frank Kassela as well as Daniel Negreanu, Tom Dwan, Alexander Kostritsyn, Brian Hastings, John Hennigan and John Juanda. The last of these having bet Jason Mercier @ 200-1 that he wouldn't win the event when Mercier was short stacked but the Team PokerStars Pro is one of the survivors going into tomorrow's restart.

All the rest will be coming back tomorrow for a 3pm start as we attempt to whittle this field as close to the final table as is possible. Join us back on PokerNews tomorrow as Day 2 of this latest Championship event plays out some more.

Sarah Grant gives you the daily update.

Three More Hands

Livello 8 : 1,000/2,000, 200 ante

Our tournament director has just informed us that each table will play three more hands before bagging up for the night. Play is scheduled to resume tomorrow at 3 p.m. PDT.

Benyamine Continues to Climb

Benyamine: {x-}{x-} / {Q-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{10-Spades} / {x-}
Hennigan: {x-}{x-} / {A-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} / {x-}

David Beyamine raised and John Hennigan called, the latter led out on fourth and fifth with Benyamine calling. Hennigan then check-called a bet on sixth before seventh was checked down. The Frenchman showed {Q-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{9-Spades} for a solitary pair of queens but it was enough as Hennigan mucked.

Hennigan was left with just 2,000 after that hand and busted shortly afterwards.

Benyamine Scoops Hennigan and Sheikh

Livello 7 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Aurangzeb Sheikh: {x-}{x-} / {6-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} / {x-}
David Benyamine: {x-}{x-} / {9-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{A-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} / {x-}
John Hennigan: {x-}{x-} / {2-Spades}{J-Spades}{4-Clubs}{A-Clubs} / {x-}
Player 4: {x-}{x-} / {J-Hearts}{3-Clubs} FOLDED

Action began with player 4 completing and Sheikh raising. Benyamine and Hennigan called behind, as did the original raiser. On fourth, player 4 checked and Sheikh bet again. Benyamine and Hennigan called again but player 4 folded. Not deterred, Sheikh fired out on fifth and sixth and both players flatted each time. However, Sheikh slowed down and checked on seventh, prompting a bet from Benyamine, which both Sheikh and Hennigan called.

Benyamine tabled {2-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{5-Hearts} and both players mucked, chipping Benyamine up to 63,000. Hennigan and Sheikh are both down to a dime a piece.
