Welcome back to Day 2 of Event No. 40, the $5,000 Six-Handed No-Limit Hold'em event!
We saw a number of familiar faces, many known for their prowess at the tables, among the 732 who came out for yesterday's Day 1. And a lot of those tough, accomplished players will be returning today.
2010 WSOP November Niner Matt Jarvis comes back to the biggest stack, having crossed the 300,000-chip mark at the end of play on Thursday. He's followed closely by Randy Dorfman, with Daniel Negreanu and Eugene Todd both sitting nearby in the top ten. A total of 172 remain, with the top 78 finishers making the cash. (See the complete Day 2 table draw below.)
We're a little over an hour away from the start of Day 2, set to begin in the Amazon Room at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino at 2:30 p.m. Vegas time. Come back then to see who can make it through today's ten levels to get closer to that final six-handed table where over $2 million of the event's $3.44 million prize pool awaits.
Livello: 11
Bui: 500/1,000
Ante: 100
Neil Willerson has been eliminated in the first few minutes of play today. He moved all in preflop with and was called by Anthony Gregg with .
The board ran out and Willerson was sent to the rail. Gregg now has close to 200,000 in chips.
Russell Carson opened with a raise to 2,200 from the hijack seat and it folded back to Jordan Young in the big blind. Young paused, then announced he was reraising all in, and Carson called quickly, committing his entire stack of 18,400.
Young showed while Carson was hoping his would hold. The five community cards came , and Carson has bumped up to 39,400. Young meanwhile slips to 9,000.
As soon as the cards were in the air, we heard a dealer shout, "Spill on 366!"
Upon reaching the table, we saw a large, brown puddle on the ground coming from a Starbucks bag underneath Matt Vengrin's seat.
"I'm making mess over here, Chris," Vengrin called to a passing floorman.
We're not sure what will be done about the mocha mess, but for now the players will have to battle through the cocoa aroma, and try not to slip on the wet spot.
When Tim Kahlmeyer opened his bag a few minutes ago, he was sure that he didn't have enough chips. He cut them out, counted them, rinsed, and repeated.
"You put them in the bag last night, right?" a floorperson asked him.
Kahlmeyer nodded, then counted again.
"Oh," he blurted. "It's right."
The floorperson left abruptly.
We'll give Kahlmeyer a pass this time.
We've lost a handful of short stacks already during the first 15 minutes of action today, Kristina Holst, Anthony Spinella, and Jeff Shulman among them.
Right now, 168 players currently remain, which means a bit less than half of those still with chips -- 78 -- will be making the money later today.
Action folded around to Dan O'Brien in the small, who raised enough to put a very short-stacked Tim West all in. West peaked at his cards and immediately announced, "Call."

O'Brien:
The board ran out and West doubled to 24,000. O'Brien is sitting with 98,000.
