Can You Beat This?

When we reached the table, the board read {k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{2-Spades}, and David "Bakes" Baker and Dave "Devilfish" Ulliott were heads up. Ulliott led out for 2,000, and Baker quickly called.

The river was the {j-Spades}, and Ulliott led again - this time for 4,500. Baker reached for a handful of chips, splashing 14,700 into the middle, and Ulliott went into the tank.

"Can you beat this?" Ulliott asked, showing {5-Diamonds}{3-Spades} then mucking.

Baker gave a laugh, and has reason to smile; he commands one of the biggest stacks in the room.

Kicker Problems for Farha

Sammy Farha was in the cutoff and somehow created a preflop pot of 6,500 with the player in the small blind. When the flop came down {A-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{6-Hearts}, it was the latter player that led out for 3,200, with Farha calling behind. Both players then checked the {7-Clubs} turn, leading to the {7-Spades} river.

The small blind bet 5,075, Farha quickly called, and the small blind showed {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}. Farha just shook his head up and down and showed the inferior {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs}.

"From 600 to 30k Pot"

Livello 6 : 200/400, 50 ante

Normally we come up with our own headlines for these little reports. But this one was suggested to us by a couple of players at the table -- Freddy Deeb (in the hand) and Andy Frankenberger (an observer). And it seems to highlight the most remarkable aspect of the following hand quite well.

It started humbly, with a completion by the small blind and a check by Freddy Deeb in the big. Then came the flop, a nifty-looking {6-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{4-Hearts}. The small blind checked, and Deeb pushed out a bet of 600 -- the "600" of our headline. The small blind called.

Then came the turn -- the {7-Hearts} -- joining the other three cards as though they were a row of well-choreographed dancers. The small blind checked again, and Deeb bet 2,000 this time. Deeb's opponent made the call.

The river was the doesn't-really-belong-here {J-Spades}. (Really, what was that card doing out on the stage?) The small blind tanked again, and Deeb made a huge overbet by pushing all in. The small blind had about 13,000 left, and tanked for some time before emerging to make the call. That made a pot close to 30K (again, see headline).

The small blind showed {A-Clubs}{3-Hearts} for a straight flush to the seven, but Deeb had {8-Hearts}{2-Hearts} for the higher straight flush. Deeb scores yet another knockout, and now sits with about 80,000.

Mizzi Gets Giang-ed

We didn't catch how the action unfolded, but we do know that Sorel Mizzi got all in preflop for 27,300 and was called by Chau Giang.

Mizzi: {Q-Spades}{Q-Hearts}
Giang: {A-Hearts}{K-Spades}

It was the most classic of flips, but Mizzi was ahead; unfortunately, that all changed when the {K-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{2-Spades} flop delivered Giang a king to take the lead. The {K-Hearts} turn left Mizzi drawing to a queen on the river, but the ladies don't seem to be in his favor today. The {5-Clubs} blanked and Mizzi was eliminated from the tournament.

Jack Be Nimble, Jack Be Quick, Jack Go Under Karamalikis' Stick

Daniel Negreanu raised to 675 preflop and received calls from Jonathan Karamalikis on the button and Mark Cork in the big blind. Action checked to Karamalikis on the {Q-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{10-Spades} flop and he bet 1,000. Cork put in a check-raise to 3,100, Negreanu folded, and Karamalikis made the call.

When the dealer burned and turned the {5-Diamonds}, Cork led out for 5,000 and Karamalikis called, leading to the {3-Spades} on the river. This time both players checked, with Cork insta-mucking after action was complete. Karamalikis showed {J-Clubs}{J-Hearts} for the winning hand.

No More Hall Pass

A player in the hijack raised to 700 only to have Galen Hall three-bet to 2,000 from the cutoff. Matt Affleck came along for the ride on the button, and the original raiser made the call as well. Three players saw a flop of {Q-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}, and the cutoff checked to Hall, who fired out 2,700. Affleck quickly raised to 6,000, the hijack folded, and Hall three-bet all in for 16,500. Affleck made the call.

Hall: {J-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}
Affleck: {A-Spades}{Q-Spades}

Affleck had flopped top pair with top kicked, but Hall was drawing to a diamond flush. The {6-Clubs} turn was a safe card for Affleck, so Hall needed a diamond on the river to stay alive. The dealer burned and slowly put out the {8-Spades}. Just like that, Hall's tournament came to an end.

Chinese Poker on the iPad

Livello 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

During last year's WSOP, we noticed several poker pros playing "Angry Birds" and "Scrabble" on their iPads, but this year there seems to be a whole new fad, that being Chinese Poker. There is an app for the iPad that allows players to enjoy a game of Chinese Poker against one another, something many pros have been doing to pass the time in between hands.

We recently noticed Nenad Medic and Jason Mercier, who are sitting on tables kiddie-corner to one another, are playing Chinese Poker against each other. We're not sure who is winning, but based on Medic's smile, he must be ahead.
