Schafer Has Hart

When we reached Table 347, the flop had already fallen {7-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{3-Hearts}. Amir Lehavot and Dave "Devilfish" Ulliott checked to Thorsten Schafer who fired 5,400. Lehavot folded, and Ulliott raised to 15,000. Schafer re-raised to 23,400, Ulliot moved all in for 54,100, and Schafer called.

Ulliott: {6-Clubs}{4-Clubs}
Schafer: {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}

Ulliott flopped a straight, but Schafer held the only heart. The {10-Spades} on the turn changed nothing, but the {q-Hearts} on the river completed Schafer's flush, doubling him to 180,000 chips.

No Title Defense for Kelly

Dan Kelly, who won the $25,000 buy-in version of this event last year, has recently been eliminated from the tournament. His downfall began when he raised to 2,800 preflop and David Gent three-bet to 7,500 from the button. Kelly responded by moving all in and Gent quickly called off his last 58,500.

Kelly: {A-Clubs}{2-Clubs}
Gent: {J-Spades}{J-Clubs}

The board ran out {7-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{3-Spades} and Gent held on to double; meanwhile, Kelly was left with 60K.

A short time later, Kelly raised preflop, Isaac Baron three-bet, and Kelly moved all in. Baron made the easy call with pocket aces, and the rest was history.

Laak Scares One Off

We caught up to the action at Table 349 to find David Kitai under the gun making it 2,300 preflop. Action folded around to Phil Laak in the small blind who was the only one willing to shovel out the chips to see a flop.

The dealer then spread {6-Spades}{6-Clubs}{3-Clubs} in the middle of the table for the flop. Both players opted to check and see a turn. With the {2-Clubs} on the turn Laak fired out a bet of 3,800 which was called by Kitai.

A {10-Clubs} on the river brought a 11,600 bet from Laak. Kitai went into the tank and spent several minutes contemplating what it was he wanted to do. Eventually after sizing up his chips a handful of times Kitai sent his cards into the muck.

Ace on the River Sends Frankenberger to the Rail

Action folded around to McLean Karr in the small blind and he put in standard raise. A short-stacked Andy Frankenberger was in the big blind and responded by moving all in for 23,300 more. Karr thought long and hard, at times appearing pained by the decision. "I have a suited ace. I don't think I can folded," he explained. A few moments later, he made the call.

Karr: {A-Clubs}{3-Clubs}
Frankenberger: {Q-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}

The {10-Spades}{K-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} flop contained no clubs and no ace, which was good news for Frankenberger. The {8-Diamonds} turn meant Karr was left drawing to an ace on the river, and much to Frankenberger's dismay, the {A-Hearts} spiked!

"Nice hand," was all Frankenberger could say as he exited the Amazon Room.

"Wow, an ace on the river," Karr said under his breath as he stacked his newly-won chips.

Lindgren Doubles Up

We managed to make our way to Table 376 and found Paul Foltyn making it 3,000, the player on his immediate left, Jamie Armstrong then reraised and made it 6,400. When action folded around to Erick Lindgren in the big blind he three bet and put 16,000 in the middle. Foltyn folded and Armstrong moved all in. Lindgren made the call and was at risk of being eliminated because Armstrong had him covered.

Lindgren: {8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}
Armstrong: {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}

With a {J-Hearts}{8-Spades}{4-Spades} flop Lindgren was looking to be in great shape to double up. With the {7-Hearts} on the turn Armstrong picked up a flush draw. The {7-Clubs} on the river sealed the deal though and Lindgren was able to double up with a full house, eights over sevens.
