Kelso Hits the Rail

Livello 11 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Helge Pederson raised to 21,000 from middle position before Blake Kelso raised all in for 9,600. It folded back around to Pederson and the call was made.

Pederson: {6-Spades}{6-Clubs}
Kelso: {a-Spades}{j-Hearts}

The board ran out {6-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{10-Clubs} and Kelso hit the rail while Pederson chips up to 50,000.

Boat over Boat for Routos

Livello 11 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

On a board of {10-}{q-}{10-}{a-}{4-} all the money went in between James Routos and Erion Islamay.

Islamay had {a-}{10-} for a full house, but Routos held the winner with {q-}{q-}. Not much Islamay could do as he slips to 23,000 chips. Routos, on the other hand, has reached 70,000 with that pot.

Stein Searching For Another Bracelet

Livello 11 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Sam Stein
Sam Stein

Sam Stein is one of several players who is having a fantastic 2011 World Series. He already has a 3rd place showing in the $10,000 PLO Championship, and a bracelet in the $3,000 PLO event two weeks ago. Stein is currently 3rd in the player of the year race, and is looking to increase that standing in this tournament, where he has just claimed an early knockout. Iulian Iacob went all-in in late position for 13,000, and Stein was the only caller. The players flipped their cards, and Stein had Iacob crushed.

Stein: {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades}
Iacob: {a-Clubs}{2-Clubs}

The flop provided Iacob no help, coming {8-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{7-Spades}. The turn came the {9-Hearts}, and the river brought an unnecessary pair for Stein, as it came the {k-Clubs}. Stein won the pot, boosting his stack up to 34,000.

Sharp Cards

Livello 11 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

We just heard the dealer at Table 372 ask a favor from his players. "Just be really careful when you throw the cards into the muck. They're the sharpest cards I've ever seen, and they really will cut you. I'm not even kidding, be careful." He looked at the tips of his fingers and rubbed the sore spots.

We knew we'd spotted Men the Master Nguyen in that area a few minutes ago, and we naturally scanned the table in question to see if he was there. He wasn't; he was at the adjacent table. Rats.

It sounds like it's nothing malicious over there, just a dealer trying to protect the tools of his trade.

Papola Gets the Best of Aldridge

Livello 11 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Ken Aldridge raised preflop to 2,500 before Jeffrey Papola three-bet him to 5,600. When it got back to Aldridge, he wasted little time in making the call and the two saw a flop heads up.

It came down {6-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{j-Clubs} and both players checked. The turn ws the {5-Clubs} and Aldridge led for 2,500. Papola called and the river was the {3-Spades}. Again, Aldridge led for 2,500 but this time Papola made it 8,000. Aldridge contemplated the decision for a bit before throwing in the necessary chips. Papola tabled {k-}{10-} and Aldridge angrily mucked his cards. A Queen flipped over in the process.

Papola chips up to 70,000 while Aldridge falls to 38,000.

E-Fro Sends One Packing

Livello 12 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Action folded around to Andrew Meiners, who shoved all in for around 10,000. It folded to Eric Froehlich, who cut out the chips and quietly announced call. The blinds got out of the way and the players tabled their cards.

Froehlich: {k-Spades}{j-Spades}
Meiners: {9-Spades}{9-Hearts}

We had another classic race on our hands, and Froehlich shot out to a big lead when the flop came out {q-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{j-Clubs}. The turn brought the {10-Diamonds}, giving Meiners a few more outs. They didn't come however, as the river came the {q-Clubs}. Meiners was eliminated, while E-Fro is off to a greast start on the day, as he is up to 75,000.

Allen Bari Busts One

Livello 12 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

From the cutoff, Allen Bari raised to 2,400 and Karl Pirkopf moved all in for 14,700 from the small blind. Bari thought for a bit before making a smirky-grimace face indicated he didn't have much of a hand and made the call.

Bari: {j-Spades}{10-Spades}
Pirkopf: {a-Hearts}{8-Hearts}

The board ran out {6-Hearts}{q-Spades}{2-Spades}{6-Spades}{9-Spades}. Bari had Pirkopf drawing dead by the turn with a flush and chips up to 120,000 in the process.

Stein Doubles Up

Livello 12 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

We reported earlier that Sam Stein was chipping up today, and he just took a big step towards his quest to moving up in the WSOP Player of the Year board. When we got to the table, Stein was heads up with Igor Kurganov on a flop of {q-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}. Stein had led out for 3,600, and Kurganov raised to 9,200. Stein thought for about a minute before he slid the rest of his stack into the middle, about 32,500 total. Kurganov made the call, and Stein saw that he was ahead.

Stein: {q-Spades}{9-Clubs}
Kurganov: {k-Clubs}{10-Clubs}

Stein had flopped top pair, but would have to fade the straight draw and over card of Kurganov. The turn was as good as it could have been for Stein, coming the {q-Diamonds}, eliminating Kurganov's king and nine for outs. That turn became even more important when the {k-Diamonds} hit the river. Despite pairing his king, Kurganov was second best to Stein's trips, and Stein took the double up to boost his stack up to 71,000.
