Chen Out

Bill Chen - Eliminated
Bill Chen - Eliminated

2-7 Triple Draw

Bill Chen raised from under the gun, Vladimir Shchemelev re-raised from the small blind, and Chen called. Chen drew two, Shchemelev drew one, and Shchemelev led out. Chen called.

Chen drew two again, Shchemelev drew one, and Shchemelev bet. Chen called all in for less than a bet (10,500).

Chen drew one, and Shchemelev patted, fanning {9-}{6-}{5-}{4-}{2-}. Chen opened up {8-}{4-}{3-}{2-}, and would win with any five, six, or seven. He sweated his final card, it was a {k-}, and Chen was eliminated from the tournament.

Hellmuth Goes With Read, Is Rewarded

Livello 13

No-Limit Hold'em

We just caught the tail end of an interesting hand between Phil Hellmuth and Scott Seiver.

They'd reached the river with the board showing {8-Spades}{3-Hearts}{9-Spades}{8-Clubs}{9-Hearts} and about 180,000 in the middle. Hellmuth checked, and Seiver bet 87,000. Hellmuth went deep into the tank, then finally emerged to make the call.

After Hellmuth called, Seiver tapped the table to confirm the Poker Brat had made a good decision. As the chips were pushed Hellmuth's way he tabled his hand -- {J-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}! Seiver's hand may or may not have been in the muck as yet, but it appeared from Seiver's response that whatever he'd had he couldn't have beaten jack-high.

"Yes!" said Hellmuth, congratulating himself for the gutsy call. He's at about 840,000 now while Seiver has around 770,000.

Smith Triples

Stud-8

Scott Clements: (X)(X) / {5-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{3-Clubs} / (X)
Justin "Boosted J" Smith: (X)(X) / {9-Hearts}{2-Spades}{j-Spades}{7-Diamonds} / (X)
Steve Sung: (X)(X) / {9-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} / (X)

Clements brought in, Smith completed, Sung raised, Clements callled, and Smith re-raised. Both Sung and Clements called.

On fourth street, Smith led out, Sung raised, and Clements cold-called. Smith re-raised, Sung called, and Clements called again. Clements checked on fifth, Smith bet all in, Sung raised, and Clements called.

Clements check-called another bet on sixth, and both players checked on seventh. Smith opened up {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts}{10-Spades} for a pair of aces, Sung showed {k-Hearts}{k-Spades}{6-Clubs} for a pair of kings, and Clements mucked.

Katchalov Caught

Livello 13
Eugene Katchalov
Eugene Katchalov

Pot-Limit Omaha

Shortly after that hand with Brian Rast, Eugene Katchalov opened with a raise from middle position and Owais Ahmed reraised from late position. It folded back to Katchalov who pushed all in with the 107,000 he had behind and Ahmed made the call.

Katchalov: {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{8-Hearts}
Ahmed: {A-Spades}{A-Hearts}{K-Spades}{4-Spades}

The flop came {Q-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}, giving Katchalov hope with a flush draw. But the turn was the {A-Clubs} and river the {5-Clubs}, giving Ahmed a full house and sending Katchalov to the rail.

Ahmed now has about 450,000.

Rast on the Rise

Livello 13
Brian Rast
Brian Rast

Pot-Limit Omaha

With the board showing {4-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{8-Hearts} and about 25,000 in the middle, Eugene Katchalov bet 20,000, then Brian Rast raised to 45,500. Both had been enjoying bowls of pasta at the table, but had dropped their utensils as the betting became heavy. Katchalov chewed, swallowed, then called Rast's bet.

The turn was the {7-Clubs} and both checked. The river brought the {5-Spades} and another check from Katchalov. Rast carved out a bet of 80,000, and Katchalov winced at the sight of the bet. After a half-minute of thought, he finally folded and returned to his pasta.

"All-in with 8-7 and now look…" said Abe Mosseri, referring to an earlier 2-7 Triple Draw hand of Rast's and his currently huge chip stack. He's nearing the million-chip mark now, presently sitting with about 980,000.

Meanwhile, Katchalov's starting to starve for chips. He down to about 120,000 now.
