Cohen With a Flop You Dream About

Livello 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

On Day 1C, Samantha Cohen was sitting with Yevgeniy Timoshenko, David Diaz and Daniel Cates. She joked that she was going to fold her way to Day 2 and hope to get a better table draw. She did just that, finishing Day 1 with barely over the starting stack and has been running up her stack all day.

From the hijack, Samantha Cohen raised to 2,200 and received calls from the players in the cutoff, the button and the big blind.

The flop was {3-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} and all four players checked to see the {8-Diamonds} hit the turn. The player first to act checked to Cohen who bet 3,400. The player directly to her left called while the other two folded.

The river was the {3-Spades} and Cohen bet 7,000. Her opponent thought for a little while before slowly putting in the chips. Cohen tabled {k-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} for the nut flush and was shipped the pot to get her to 109,000.

Here Comes Mercier

Jason Mercier
Jason Mercier

We caught up with the action three-handed where the big blind, Jason Mercier (middle position) and Tom McCormick (hijack) all checked the {J-Hearts}{4-Spades}{4-Clubs} flop. All three players also checked the {5-Diamonds} turn but when the {10-Spades} hit the river, the big blind led for 3,500. Mercier called behind while McCormick folded and the big blind showed {10-Clubs}{9-Clubs} for tens up. Mercier also had tens up but his {K-Hearts}{10-Hearts} gave him a higher kicker with a king than the jack on board and he took down the pot.

Carpenter Building a Tower

Livello 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

We've got another player crossing the 300,000-chip mark in style, and it's Tom Carpenter (who sounds like a Brit, in our estimation). We just watched Carpenter call a preflop raise to 2,300 from the big blind, and he check-called another 3,000 after the {9-Clubs} {5-Clubs} {3-Diamonds} flop. The {5-Spades} on the turn was Carpenter's cue to take the betting lead, and he made it 7,500 to go. His opponent called, and he'd call another 14,000-chip bet after the {J-Hearts} river.

At showdown, Carpenter's {4-Diamonds} {5-Diamonds} gave him the winning trip fives, and he's charging through this Day 2, working his stack up into the expensive section. He's got 332,000 now, and that might just pip him into the overall lead for the moment.

Mizzirable Flop for Goldberg

George McDonald opened to 2,200, Fred Goldberg called, and Sorel Mizzi called from the blinds. The flop fell {q-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{j-Clubs}, and the action checked to Goldberg who bet 2,200. Mizzi check-raised to 8,500, McDonald mucked, and Goldberg recklessly splashed 19,500 into the pot.

Mizzi went deep into the tank, eventually calling, and the two checked on the turn ({10-Spades}) and the river ({k-Hearts}).

"Straight," Goldberg said.

Mizzi said nothing, rather he silently tabled {8-Clubs}{7-Clubs} for a flopped flush. Goldberg's cards hit the muck, and Mizzi's stack is now flirting with the century mark once again.

Shulman Sent to the Rail

After a player in middle position raised to 2,300, Barry Shulman called from the hijack and all the other players folded. The flop came {q-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} and the first player bet 6,000 only to have Shulman go all in for a total of 40,500. The other player called and their hands were tabled.

Shulman: {j-Clubs}{10-Clubs}
Opponent: {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}

Shulman's open-ended straight draw was behind to the other player's pocket aces. The turn and river brought the {3-Spades} and {4-Hearts} and Shulman's Main Event came to an end.

Welcome to the 300k Club Stephane Albertini, Farewell Yevgeniy Timoshenko

Yevgeniy Timoshenko
Yevgeniy Timoshenko

According to the official chip counts, Stephane Albertini started the day with only 13,150 in chips or less than half the starting stack and quite below average. However after having just knocked out Yevgeniy Timoshenko, Albertini has vaulted up the chip counts.

We only caught the action on the river of a {K-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} board where Timoshenko who was first to act shoved all in for 90,700. Albertini who had him covered snap-called and flipped over {K-Spades}{K-Hearts} for nut-boat and Timosheno mucked. The pot brought Albertini over the 300,000 mark, quite a feat considering what he started at while Timoshenko would have to kiss his main event dreams goodbye.

Brenes Flush With Chips

A player in middle position opened for 2,500 and Humberto Brenes three-bet to 8,500 from the cutoff whilst quietly signing a song in Spanish. Action folded back around to the original raiser, who flatted.

The flop came {6-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} and both players checked.

The {9-Diamonds} fell on the turn and the middle-position player led out for 11,000. Brenes, still singing, made the call.

The {9-Spades} completed the board and Brenes' opponent checked. Brenes stopped singing and began stroking his chin before eventually firing a 12,300 bet.

"You got aces over there?" Brenes' opponent asked. Brenes remaining silent and his opponent tossed in a call.

Brenes tabled {J-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} for a flush and his opponent revealed the {A-Diamonds} then the {K-Spades} one-by-one.

Brenes is up to 145,000.
