Jace Takes The Chip Lead With Aces

Daryl Jace
Daryl Jace

A swarm of ESPN cameras rushed over to the table where Daryl Jace is residing, so we went to go see what was going on. Jace was in a hand where he had called the all in of Joshua Pollock, who had just over 100,000 left. The cards were tabled, and Jace was in great shape to score another knockout.

Jace: {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}
Pollock: {j-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}

The cameras set up for their shots, and the dealer put out a flop of {q-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{2-Spades}. Jace was still well in the lead, and the {2-Clubs} on the turn changed nothing. Pollock would need a miracle on the river, and he didn't get it, as it came the {6-Diamonds}. Pollock was eliminated, while Jace takes the chip lead in the room with 2.4 million.

Spitzberg Moves Up

On the turn of a {4-Hearts} {Q-Clubs} {5-Hearts} {7-Spades} board, we watched the final betting actions of Josh Kay's day. It was Paul Spitzberg who did the first betting, and Kay raised in position. Spitzberg shoved, though, and Kay was put to the test for about 500,000 chips he had behind. He called after some time, and the news was not at all good.

Showdown
Kay: {7-Diamonds} {5-Diamonds}
Spitzberg: {Q-Hearts} {7-Hearts}

Two pair versus two pair, but it was Spitzberg with a hammer lock on the pot. Poor Josh Kay had to wait about four minutes for the cameras to assemble around the table, and the river {J-Spades} finally put him out of his misery.

With that pot, Paul Spitzberg puts his name among the chip leaders. He's got about 1.8 million, and he's having a hard time stacking them. In a case of the "sick brag", he spoke up. "This is my only problem with tournament play. When I do well, I can't handle all the chips in front of me." There were a few hushed looks of disdan from the shorter-stacked players at the table, but Spitzberg is a likable guy over there, the chatty one at the table.

Freerollin' JRB

Livello 19 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Jean-Robert Bellande
Jean-Robert Bellande

Jean-Robert Bellande opened with a raise to 24,000 from the cutoff seat and got one caller in Robert Lipkin in the small blind. The flop came {9-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{K-Clubs} and both players checked. The turn then brought the {10-Spades}… and action.

Lipkin led with a bet of 36,000, then Bellande made it 136,000 to go. Lipkin waited a short while, then declared he was all in for his last 250,000 or so. Bellande quickly called.

Lipkin: {K-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}
Bellande: {Q-Spades}{4-Spades}

Both players had king-high straights, but Bellande was freerolling with his flush draw. The dealer burned a card and dealt the river -- the {8-Spades}! The crowd here at the main feature table reacted audibly with a roar in response to the sight of Bellande's flush, and the two players shook hands before Lipkin left the stage.

Bellande bounces back up to 1.302 million.

Aron's Aces Cracked

A mid postion raiser opened the pot and Michael Aron made it 62,000 from the cutoff. Vladimir Geshkenbein was in the small blind and popped it to 105,000. The original raiser folded and Aron tanked before shoving all in. Geshkenbein called and tabled {9-Hearts} {9-Spades}. Aron revealed {A-Spades} {A-Diamonds}.

The board ran {K-Hearts} {9-Clubs} {2-Spades} {4-Clubs} {6-Diamonds} and Geshkenbein's cracked Aron's aces and sent him to the rail.

Hoosier Sent to the Bench

We missed how it went down preflop, but the important part is that Alex "AJKHoosier1" Kamberis got his last 140,000 into the middle preflop against Magnus Persson. Kamberis was at risk, but his {A-Hearts} {A-Clubs} had him poised to double through Persson's {K-Diamonds} {K-Clubs}.

The first four cards on board were safe for Kamberis ({Q-Hearts} {2-Spades} {6-Spades} {4-Diamonds}), but the river was cruel. The {K-Spades} fell, and Kamberis could not fade the two-outer. He sat there in stunned silence for just a moment, then gathered his things and headed for the exit.

Rosskamm Doubles Through Gates

Garry Gates raised to 22,000 from early position and cleared the field all the way to Andrew Rosskamm in the big blind. Rosskamm chose to exercise his option with a three-bet to 87,000, which Gates saw fit to call. When the flop fell {J-Spades}{9-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}, RossKamm wasted little time in moving all in for 200,000 and Gates made the call.

Showdown
Rosskamm: {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds}
Gates: {10-Clubs}{10-Spades}

Rosskamm was at risk, but he held the best hand; however, Gates could catch either a seven, queen, or ten to take the lead. The dealer burned and slowly turned the {2-Diamonds}, a blank as far as Gates was concerned. Again the dealer burned and put out the river . . . {5-Diamonds}.

Gates missed his draws to drop to 720,000 while Rosskamm doubled to nearly 600,000.

Crawford Can't Call The River

Michael De Gilio came in for a raise under the gun to 22,000, and Claudia Crawford made the call in the small blind. Chris Kwon was in the big blind, and me put out a raise to 61,000. Both players made the call, and the pot already had nearly 200,000 in it.

The flop came out {7-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{q-Hearts}, and Crawford checked to Kwon, who fired out a bet of 94,000. Both players called again, and the pot continued to swell up. The turn brought the {8-Clubs}, and Crawford checked to Kwon, who bet out again. This time, it was for 169,000, and while De Gilio got out of the way, Crawford made the call once again. The river brought the {j-Diamonds}, and Crawford checked one more time. Kwon put the hammer down, going all in for around 800,000, and Crawford snap folded, dropping her to 640,000 total, while Kwon is up to 1.6 million.

Devonshire Delivers Rough Knockout to Matos

Bryan Devonshire
Bryan Devonshire

We found Robert Matos all in preflop for just under 700,000 and at risk against Bryan Devonshire who had him covered by around 150,000.

Matos: {A-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}
Devonshire: {A-Hearts}{Q-Spades}

Devonshire was dominated and there was a good chance he would lose a majority of his stack to double up Matos. With the ESPN cameras rolling, the flop came down {5-Spades}{4-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} and another player at the table said, “Three?” which would give the players a chop. The {Q-Clubs} on the turn stormed Devonshire into the lead and now Matos would need a king to double up or a three to survive and chop. The river was the {7-Clubs} though and Matos was eliminated but was in good spirits and said, “It’s been a pleasure, good luck” and shook the hand of each and every one of his opponents as he made his exit.
