When we walked up to Shane Schleger's table it seemed there was a bit of confusion happening. Schleger and another player were involved in a hand and a floor person had been called over to help resolve a situation involving a possible string bet.
We aren't sure of what exactly happened but it appeared that Schleger had bet after a flop of and that his opponent had wanted to raise. Based on the way he tossed his chips in, he was forced to simply call Schleger's bet.
The turn brought the and the player who had wanted to raise on the flop immediately went all in. Schleger folded his hand leaving himself around 18,000 in chips.
We caught up with the action on an flop and 6,500 already in the pot. Robert Varkonyi moved all in and it was up to his opponent to call. Another player at the table decided to call the clock and the floorman came over for the minute countdown. The player then said that he would wait until there was one second left before he made a decision. The floor said that he would get a penalty for stalling if he did that. So after about five seconds, he picked up the clock and the cards and threw them both. Varkonyi was up to 11,000 after the hand.
When a player in middle position pushed all in for around 4,800, Tristan Clemencon was the only player to call. Clemencon must have been happy to see that his was well ahead of his opponent's . The board ran out and Clemencon boosted his stack to around 20,000.
It appears as though Steven van Zadelhoff of the Netherlands and a member of Team Everest Poker is one of the bigger stacks in the room. He recently won a small pot when he raised in the cutoff to 650 and got called by the big blind. The flop came and the small blind checked. Van Zadelhoff put his opponent all in and the player folded. He was up to 33,000 after the hand.
It seems that we have at least two of the players who were at the final table of event #1 in today's field. We already reported that event #1's 8th place finisher Joseph Zeman was in the field.
Christopher Perez, who finished 4th in event #1, is also in the field today. In fact he seems to be doing quite well. We just spotted him with a stack around 34,000.
From middle position Casey "bigdogpckt5s" Jarzabek raised to 750 and action folded to Ian Wiley in the hijack who re-raised to 1925. Jarzabek called and declared "check in the dark." The flop came and Wiley bet 2,200 which Jarzabek called. The fell on the turn and Jarzabek checked the action to Wiley who declared "all in" and pushed his chips into the middle. Jarzabek insta-folded and Wiley took the pot.
After the hand Wiley had around 13,800 and Jarzabek had around 22,000.
We've just recently come back from the dinner break and based on the tournament clock we have 580 players remaining in day 1a. Play will continue until we reach the end of level 10 or 315 players, whichever comes first.
