Welcome to Day 2 of Event #12: $5,000 No Limit Hold’em Freezeout here at the 2023 World Series of Poker in Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas. A total of 735 players joined the action on Day 1 to create a massive prize pool of $3,381,000, and after the dust settled, only 148 remain in the hunt for WSOP gold.
Ukraine's Artem Metalidi secured the chip lead position with an impressive stack of 796,000, good for 100 big blinds. Metalidi, who is no stranger to these types of fields with over $3,600,000 in live earnings, will look to add to his impressive poker resume with a deep run here.
Also bagging healthy stacks were Matthew Hunt (519,000), four-time bracelet winner Josh Arieh (436,000), and Jeremy Becker (251,000), who's been on a run of a lifetime taking down ten tournaments since the start of the year to up his lifetime earning to just under $1 Million.

With 148 players returning to action in the gold section of the Horseshoe Event Center, all eyes will be on the money bubble looming closer. The top 111 will find a return on their investment with a min-cash being $8,011 and the eventual winner taking home $649,550.
Many other notables took to the green felts on Day 1 and some who couldn't find any run good include popular poker YouTuber Ethan "Rampage" Yau, multiple bracelet winners Alex Foxen, Chance Kornuth, and Daniel Negreanu, as well as Shaun Deeb, who finished second in the $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em Deepstack on WSOP.com early this morning.
The action kicks off at 1 p.m. local time today in the Horseshoe Event Center with blinds resuming at Level 16 with 4,000/8,000 and an 8,000 big blind ante. The plan is to play ten 60-minute levels and the remaining players will bag for Day 3 tomorrow, where a winner will be crowned.

Tzur Levy opened the action from early position to 16,000 and only Michael Wang made the call in the hijack.
The flop came J♦6♣2♣ and Levy continued for 17,000, which Wang came along. The 7♠ rolled off on the turn and Levy slowed down with a check. Wang took a moment before tossing out a bet of 28,000. Levy contemplated his options, but in the end, made the fold and the pot was sent to Wang.

Felipe Ramos opened to 18,000 from early position and was was called by Julio Delgado on the button. Ruan Zhuang then squeezed to 50,000 and only Delgado called.
The flop came K♥7♥2♥ and Zhuang continued for 37,000. Delgado quickly folded and Zhuang collected the pot.

The action folded around to Randall Emmett on the button who moved all in for 129,000. The small blind quickly folded and Stanton Tentnowski in the big blind asked for a count. After some thought, Tentnowski made the call and the cards were shown.

Emmett found himself in great shape against the ace-seven, and when the board ran out Q♠9♦2♦6♠8♣, the sevens held up to score a full double up for Emmett and leave Tentnowski on a short-stack.
"That was a sweat! It's too early for this," said Emmett as he smiled and stacked up his newly acquired chips.

Upeshka De Silva was heads up against Ben Heath on a completed board of 7♣5♦8♣J♣4♣ with a bit over 100,000 in the middle. De Silva fired a 92,000 bet into the middle from the small blind and Ben Heath went into the tank from the cutoff.
Heath eventually landed on a fold and De Silva claimed he held aces with the ace of clubs.
Andre Akkari busted at another table.

The PokerNews team was called over to a table after the fact to hear a hand that had just happened.
A short-stacked player in early position moved all in for 45,000 and Robbi Jade Lew moved all in over the top for 82,000 next to act. It folded over to Steven Buckner in the cutoff who made the call to put both players at risk. The rest of the table got out of the way and the cards were shown.
