Day 3 of Event #38: $10,000 Limit 2-7 Triple Draw Championship has drawn to a close with two players still remaining. Benny Glaser and Oscar Johansson will return for a Day 4 to play heads-up for the gold bracelet and $311,428 first-place prize. Glaser ended with 4,940,000, while Johansson bagged up 2,860,000 in chips.

Glaser has proven his 2-7 Limit Triple Draw prowess, having already won a bracelet in the variant back in 2015. Glaser has since won three more WSOP bracelets and is in pole position to win his fifth with a victory tomorrow.

A win for Johansson would be his first bracelet; however, Johansson was runner-up for a 2-7 Limit Triple Draw bracelet back in 2018 and will surely be eager for the gold after coming so close.

Day 3 Action

Day 3 began with just ten players and it was no surprise that George Alexander and Alexander Wilkinson busted shortly after play began given that they both sat down with just a handful of big bets each. More unexpected was Jason Papastavrou, who despite starting the day fourth in chips, was eliminated just shy of the final table after hitting a bad run of cards and running in Julien Martini’s eighty-five and missing his draw to a seven.

It looked to be Glaser’s day, as he immediately began to extend his lead over the remaining players and at one point had twice the amount of chips as second place during seven-handed play. David “Bakes” Baker was down to less than a single big bet during the early stages of the final table, but he hung on long enough to outlast Joao Vieira, who bowed out in seventh place after running into Michael Rodrigues’ seventy-six. Baker busted in sixth shortly thereafter.

Fortunes began to change rather drastically during five-handed play – particularly for Johansson, who went from being last in chips at the final table to having the chip lead after a hot streak of cards sent him soaring. Martini nursed a short stack for much of the final table, and despite doubling up, he was eliminated in fifth place after running into Glaser's "number two" (7x6x4x3x2x).

Four-handed play lasted for two full levels, with the chip lead exchanging hands several times, before Sampo Ryynanen was eliminated in fourth place after losing a couple key pots to Rodrigues and ultimately busting against Glaser's eight-seven.

Rodrigues found himself short and made his last stand on the final hand of the night, but ended up busting to Glaser after drawing to an ace.

Glaser and Johansson will return June 18 at 2 p.m. and play down to a winner. Action will resume on level 25, which features 50,000/100,000 blinds and 100,000/200,000 limits. Any breaks will be discretionary on the players and staff.

After Oscar Johansson raised on the button and Benny Glaser three-bet from the small blind, Michael Rodrigues put in a fourth bet from the big blind committing over half of his remaining stack.

Johansson folded but Glaser called and patted his hand. Rodrigues opted to draw two.

Glaser then bet and Rodrigues called, leaving himself just over a bet left.

Glaser remained pat and Rodrigues once again replaced two cards.

Glaser then put in a final bet, and Rodrigues committed his final 205,000 chips which Glaser flicked in a call for.

Glaser patted again with Rodrigues exchanging one on the final draw.

Glaser revealed his 9x8x7x5x4x, which Rodrigues was drawing very live to with his 9x7x4x2x/Xx

Rodrigues squeezed his final card tightly but could only find an Ax, sending him to the rail in third place.

Johansson needed to draw one while Glaser stood pat.

Johansson then checked, as did Glaser, with Johansson declaring "king" to the delight of Glaser who showed 9x8x7x5x4x for the winner.

In the following hand, Glaser got bets on every street from Johanson again, this time showing him eight-perfect (8x5x4x3x2x) on the end to take another pot that now sees Glaser solidly in the lead.

Sampo Ryynanen raised from under the gun and was called by Benny Glaser in the big blind.

Glaser drew two and Ryynanen drew one on the first draw and then Glaser check-called a bet from Ryynanen.

On the very next hand, Glaser raised from the small blind and Ryynanen called from the big blind.

Glaser drew one and Ryynanen drew four on the first draw. Glaser bet and Ryynanen went all in for the rest of his stack. Glaser called to put Ryynanen at risk.

Glaser stood pat for the final two draws and Ryynanen drew two on the end. Glaser held 8x7x6x4x3x and Ryynanen held 7x5x2x and drew a 6x2x — pairing his deuce and eliminating him in fourth place.

Benny Glaser
Benny Glaser

Oscar Johansson has held the lead for the last few hours, but Benny Glaser has gradually chipped away at him and has now regained the chip lead he held at the start of the day.

Johansson raised in the cutoff and got a call from Glaser on the button. Each player drew two and Johansson check-called a bet from Glaser.

Johansson drew two again while Glaser only needed one.

Another check from Johansson was followed by a bet from Glaser, but Johansson now check-raised, which gave Glaser some pause, but he made the call and then patted behind after Johansson patted in front of him.

Johansson checked the final betting round and after Glaser bet, Johansson gave it some thought and then folded his hand, sending a pot to Glaser that gives him back the chip lead.

Julien Martini

A short-stacked Julien Martini raised under the gun and got three-bet by Benny Glaser on the button. Martini four-bet and Glaser called.

Martini stood pat, while Glaser needed two cards. Martini bet and Glaser inquired as to the size of Martini's remaining stack, which was 70,000 chips.

From there, Glaser raised, Martini put in the rest and Glaser called to put Martini at risk.

After Martini patted again, Glaser now stood pat as well. This led Martini to break his hand and take one on the final draw.

Glaser revealed number two, 7x6x4x3x2x, and after a quick peek at his cards, Martini mucked his hand, shook hands and fist-bumped his now former tablemates, and headed to the payout desk to collect his $75,341 payday.

The French star then bet again, still getting calls from both opponents who each needed a card after Martini remained pat.

Martini fired a final time on the end which got a fold from Johansson, but Rodrigues gave it some thought before making the call.

Martini showed another wheel, 7x5x4x3x2x, to boost his stack to over a million for the first time today.

David "Bakes" Baker

After Sampo Ryynanen raised on the button, Michael Rodrigues called in the small blind, as did David "Bakes" Baker from the big blind.

Rodrigues drew one, Baker drew two, and Ryynanen needed three.

Following the draw, Rodrigues led out with a bet and Baker raised from his short stack. Ryynanen now made it three bets to go, which folded out Rodrigues, but Baker called with just 15,000 chips behind.

Each remaining player drew one and Baker then check-called a bet for his remaining chips. He needed to draw one, but Ryynanen was now pat.

Baker showed his 8x7x4x3x/Xx which was in trouble against Ryynanen's 8x7x5x3x2x. Baker would need to draw a deuce to win the pot and survive, but instead, he pulled a Kx, ending his day in 6th place.

Michael Rodrigues raised under the gun and Joao Vieira called from the button, sitting on about 200,000 chips.

Each player drew two and Rodrigues then led out with a bet. Vieira called and stood pat after Rodrigues drew one card.

Rodrigues now checked and faced a bet from Vieira, which he called. Rodrigues still needed a card while Vieira remained pat.

After checking his new card, Rodrigues bet out, with Vieira only holding 20,000 chips behind. After a bit of thought, Vieira called to put his tournament life at risk, and he wouldn't like what he saw.

Rodrigues fanned 7x6x5x4x2x, which was the winner, to eliminate Vieira and provide David "Bakes" Baker, who had just 30,000 chips, a near $14,000 ladder up.
