Anthony Zinno Bags the Lead in Final Flight of the NAPT Las Vegas Main Event

Livello 14 : Blinds 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante
Anthony Zinno

The final starting flight of the 2023 PokerStars North American Poker Tour Las Vegas main event has come to a close here at Resorts World Las Vegas, and the field for Day 2 is now set. A total of 1,095 entries combined across all six starting flights to create a prize pool totaling $1,609,650, with the payouts being announced first thing in the morning.

If action is something you like then this flight was certainly the one to watch as levels were cut in half, going from 40 minutes in all previous flights to a 20-minute turbo structure. Because of that, the field size grew a bit over previous late flights and players showed a willingness to get it in early as both Sergio Aido and Andy Frankenberger doubled up and sent a player home on their first hands in the tournament.

With the uptick in numbers came some big name players as David Peters, Brandon Cantu, Scotty Nguyen and Anthony Zinno all took a seat in the turbo flight looking for entry into Day 2. Other notable players to show up for the sped up structure include Vanessa Kade, 2013 WSOP Main Event champion Ryan Riess and David Stamm, who is only one day removed from a runner-up finish in the $10,300 High Roller.

Zinno bagged the biggest stack of the flight with 229,000 for the Day 2 session. Headed to the second day with him is Dan Heimiller (115,000), Masato Yokosawa (58,000), Adam Hendrix (55,000), David Stamm (67,500) and Brandon Cantu (49,000). Some players that took a seat in the final flight but couldn't find a bag included Nguyen, Riess, Ethan "Rampage" Yau and Conrad Simpson.

Day 2 action kicks off tomorrow, November 9, at 12:00 p.m. local time with 252 remaining players joining together for the first time. They will be playing ten 60-minute levels beginning in Level 15 with blinds at 1,500/3,000 and a 3,000 big blind ante.

Heimiller Takes One Off Stamm With the Big Blind Special

Livello 9 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Dan Heimiller

David Stamm raised to 2,500 from the cutoff and found caller in both the small blind and Dan Heimiller in the big blind before seeing the 87Q flop.

All three players quickly checked through to see the K hit the turn.

The small blind checked as did Heimiller in the big blind, but Stamm reached for chips and came out with a bet of 2,300. Only Heimiller would call to see the dealer put the 10 out on the river.

Action checked through to showdown and Heimiller turned over the 82, which got a muck from Stamm before the dealer sent the chips in Heimiller's direction.

Riess Tries to Get One Through; Stamm Says No

Action was opened on the button by David Stamm to 800. The small blind called and then Ryan Riess called from the big blind.

The 56Q flop landed and action checked through to a 5 turn. It checked to Stamm on the button who put out a bet of 400. Only Riess called after a short tank.

The A river put four to a flush on board and without wasting much time Riess led out for 1,200. Stamm beat him in the pot.

Riess shook his head and mucked while Stamm tabled K10 for a ten-high flush and the win.

Aido Doubles on Hand #1

Livello 1 : Blinds 100/100, 100 ante
Sergio Aido
Sergio Aido

The floor had just called for the cards to be in the air and action folded to the small blind who raised to 300. Sergio Aido was in the big blind and opted to put in a three-bet to 1,100. The small blind called.

The 635 flop hit the felt and without much thought the small blind led out for 1,500. Aido sat in the tank for a moment and then raised to 3,500. The small blind instantly announced "all in" and Aido went into the tank.

After almost a full minute he flicked in the chips and the cards hit their backs.

Small blind: Q2
Sergio Aido: 1010

The small blind begrudgingly said "You're good" when Aido called but he still had a few outs to cool off Aido. Luckily the 3 turn and 10 river would only improve Aido and he got a pure double and the knockout on the very first hand of play.
