The field has reached the dinner break. They'll have 60 minutes before they will be back in action. The field is down to 71 players.
We caught the action with Sam Trickett having four bet all in Brett Shaffer. Shaffer decided to make the call and put his 75,000 chip stack at risk.
Trickett:
Shaffer:
Trickett was in great position to knock out Shaffer the hand before the dinner break and his lock on the hand got even stronger when the flop came . The turn and river both bricked Shaffer's Jacks and Trickett was shipped the pot.
Still counting his chips as the players leave for dinner, Trickett is now around the 230,000 mark.
Anthony Fung opened from early position and Nickolas Davies moved all in behind him. Fung called and tabled pocket queens, which was bad news for Davies as he held pocket jacks.
The board ran and Fung's queens held. Davies thought he was eliminated but after the dealer counted down the stacks he had just over two big blinds. It seems as if he'll make it to the dinner break.
On a flop of Dean Hamrick announced that he was all in. Matt Sterling made the call, tabling which was ahead of Hamrick's . Although behind on the flop, Hamrick was able to stay alive in the tournament thanks to the turn and river of and pairing the board, and thus allowing for a chopped pot. Sterling seemed annoyed by the turn of events, but Hamrick was certainly elated that he was able to stay alive in the tournament.
Andy Black was able to knock out a player when his held against the of his opponent.
Another player at the same table asked Black, "Do you always run this good?"
"Better! I always run perfectly," Black said with a smile. His stack has been on a steady climb upward today and currently rests at 133,000. If Black runs any better it is going to take a lot to stop him in this tournament.
We caught up with this hand as John Myung insta-called another player's all in on the turn. The board read and Myung flopped top set holding . The other player held and was drawing to a straight, a flush and a king. Myung's hand held as the river came Myung is up over 40,000.
Paul Dewald was facing a four bet from Steve Watts and had to call 18,200 more. After thinking for a minute or two, Dewald decided to move all in for about 65,000 but was immediately disappointed when Watts snap-called.
Dewald was well behind with against Watts' . Watts even had his suits covered. The flop came , and Watts was that much closer to regaining a spot among the top chip leaders. The turn and river made the result final and after a count, Dewald hit the rail.
Watts now surpassed his high point with 160,000.
Kenneth Martin knocked out Anh Van Nguyen when his won against Nguyen's . But apparently, Martin doesn't even like Ace-King that much.
Earlier, when he had pocket Jacks, he mentioned that he had never tried playing them that way. With his Ace-King, he seemed shocked that he won the hand. He's starting to think maybe his luck is changing.
