Unlucky Kelly

With a player making it 7,000 to go JP Kelly moved all in from the small blind. Dimitar Danchev then moved all in for a couple thousand more than Kelly. The initial raiser folded and cards were tabled.

Kelly: {A-}{A-}
Danchev: {Q-}{Q-}

The {Q-Spades}{2-Hearts}{10-Clubs} flop was a sight of horror for Kelly as Danchev hit a set of queen, basically leaving himself dead to another ace. The turn however brought some hope as the {K-Spades} for fourth street gave Kelly a gut-shot straight draw. The river {2-Spades} blanked out for Kelly as his lonely aces were trumped by Danchev's three queens. Kelly said "nice hand" and calmly left the table.

Ace-High Good for Thorson

William Thorson and Elliot Smith were heads up with the board reading {7-Spades}{6-Spades}{2-Diamonds}. We're not sure who initiated the action, but each player put in 19,000 on the flop, then both players checked when the turn brought the {k-Diamonds}. Thorson checked again after the {5-Diamonds} fell on the river, and Smith tossed out 28,000.

Thorson went deep into the tank, removing 28,000 from his stack and counting how much would be left if he called and was wrong. Eventually he made the call, and Smith opened up {10-Hearts}{9-Hearts} for ten-high. Thorson showed {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades} for ace-high, it was good, and he won the pot.

Big-Stack Poker

With the big blind yet to return from the break, Phil Laak raised to 7,500 from the cutoff, perhaps looking to swipe the dead money. The button quickly got out of the way, but Greg Dyer was in the small blind and refused to go down without a fight. Dyer, who has chipped up as of late, put in a three bet to 22,500, which was enough to inspire Laak to fold.

Benba Booming

As players were leaving for break, Emil Patel opened to 5,200 from late position and the 2011 World Series of Poker Player of the Year leader Ben "Benba" Lamb three-bet to 18,000 from the blinds. Patel thought for a bit before double fisting chips in the middle, making it 35,900, and Lamb responded by sliding our a large stack of orange T5,000 chips - which was enough to put Patel all in.

Patel called, and turned over {9-Clubs}{9-Spades}. Lamb tabled {a-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}.

"Ohhhhhhhhhh yeahhhhhhhhhhhhh," Patel exclaimed.

"It's not over yet..." Lamb professed.

"If I go home and play golf tomorrow, it's fine," Patel admitted.

The flop fell {5-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}, giving Lamb a gutshot straight draw and a backdoor flush draw, and the {j-Diamonds} on the turn kept the flush draw alive.

"That's a big one," Lamb said.

The river was neither a six nor a diamond, but the {a-Hearts} was enough to eliminate Patel, and boost Benba's stack to an impressive 550,000 chips.

Laak vs Lehavot

Phil Laak
Phil Laak

We managed to get to the table just in time to see Amir Lehavot raise preflop and be reraised all in by Phil Laak. Lehavot took some time, but eventually made the call.

Lehavot: {A-}{Q-}
Laak: {A-}{K-}

The cards came out {3-Hearts}{6-Spades}{9-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{9-Hearts} and it was Laak who was able to come out ahead with a better ace high.

Soulier in Trouble

Fabrice Soulier
Fabrice Soulier

Ben Tollerene raised to 6,000 from the hijack and Fabrice Soulier made the call, leaving himself just 44,000 behind. Both players proceeded to check the {J-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} flop and watched as the dealer burned and turned the {7-Spades}. At this point, Soulier bet around 10,000, Tollerene called, and the {K-Clubs} appeared on the river.

It went check-check as Soulier announced, "Nine high." Tollerene quickly rolled over {9-Spades}{8-Spades} for a pair of eights and the win. Soulier was left extremely short stacked with 36,000.

Aces > Kings > Queens

Wow.

Jim Collopy started the action, raising to 5,000 from middle position. Elliot Smith re-raised to 12,000, Markus Gonsalves four-bet to 25,000, and Collopy five-bet to 45,400. Smith moved all in for 98,900, Gonsalves moved all in for 104,300, and Collopy called having both players covered.

Collopy: {q-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}
Smith: {a-Hearts}{a-Spades}
Gonsalves: {k-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}

Like we said, wow.

The aces held as the board ran {4-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{j-Spades}{5-Spades}, and the three stacks now look like this:
