Smooth Sailing For Schoenberg

Livello 6 : 100/200, 25 ante
Erica Schoenberg
Erica Schoenberg

Erica Schoenberg came late to this event, as she had made Day 2 of the Mixed Hold'em event that started yesterday. She came in during level 3 with under her starting stack, but she has absolutely crushed her table, running her stack all the way up to 23,000 in just a few hours. We will be sure to keep our eye on Schoenberg, as she is one of the few big names left in the field.

Sometimes, There Are Good Reasons ...

Livello 6 : 100/200, 25 ante

Valerie Stephens has reduced the male player count by one, having busted a kindly gent after he got the last of his money into the middle before the flop with {A-}{Q-}, only to watch after Stephens' {8-}{8-} improved to a full house on the board of {8-}{3-}{3-}{X-}{X-}.

Another French player at the table handed Stephens a $100 note; as it turns out, the gentleman was in fact playing for charity and his friends were offering the $100 as a bounty on his head.

Patrick Devini was playing for a breast cancer charity as well, but he was busted at the hands of Shola Akindele after getting the last of his chips into the middle with {A-}{J-}, but ran into Lori Miller's {Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs}. Even so, both players lost out to Akindele's {A-Clubs}{K-Spades} after the dealer spread the board of {J-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{3-Spades}.

Boeree Makes a Good Fold

Liv Boeree
Liv Boeree

The under-the-gun player limped and Liv Boeree raised to 500 from middle position. Action folded around to the player in the big blind, who called. The original limper came along as well.

The flop came {10-Clubs}{5-Spades}{7-Spades} and both players checked to Boeree, who fired a 700 c-bet. The big blind player then raised to 2,200 and action folded back to Boeree, who thought for a bit and then mucked a {10-} face up.

"I'll show one time," her opponent said as she tabled {7-}{7-} for a flopped set.

Despite slipping to 5,100, Boeree cracked a smile knowing she made the right lay down.

Tyner Sends One to the Rail

Livello 6 : 100/200, 25 ante

Action folded to a short stack in the cutoff and she moved all in for 225. The small blind came along and Nancy Todd Tyner called the extra 25 from the big blind. The two active players proceeded to check down every street as the board ran out {K-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{8-Spades}{K-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}.

Small Blind: {A-Diamonds}{3-Spades}
Cutoff: {A-Spades}{Q-Spades}
Tyner: {10-Clubs}{9-Spades}

The kings and tens of Tyner were the best hand and she took down the small pot while eliminating an opponent. Tyner is sitting with around 4,000.

O'Brien Obliterates Smith

Lana O'Brien has now increased her stack to more than 11,000 after eliminating Jason Smith, one of the handful of male players that remain in this tournament.

All the money was in the middle before the flop; Smith had moved the last of his stack into the middle with {A-Clubs}{8-Hearts} but O'Brien was well ahead holding {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}.

The dealer spread the board of {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{J-Spades}{4-Diamonds} and the ladies gave him a send-off which we're sure is still ringing in his ears.

As another player said to our PokerNews reporter on the scene: "Let his Momma know what he's doin' today, 'cause if it was me, I'd be embarrassed!" Duly noted!

Welman No More

Popular poker media magnate and "Tina Fey of Poker" Jess Welman has been amongst the latest to have hit the rail.

As she recalled to us, in an earlier hand, she shoved from the small blind with {K-}{8-} but her opponent held {A-}{10-} which held up. Crippled down to less than 2,000, she got it in a short time later with {A-}{6-} but failed to improve against another opponent's {A-}{10-}

Quad Queens for Moutinko = Check And Mate!

Livello 5 : 100/200, 0 ante

Yet another massive round of applause went up and we saw a burly figure in a bright red shirt bolt for the exits. As it turns out, he had his soul crushed by Erika Moutinko.

All the money was in the middle before the flop; the player who was getting in touch with his feminine side showed {A-Clubs}{9-Clubs} but was in bad shape against Moutinko's {Q-}{Q-}.

And just to make certain that he was gone for good, Moutinko improved to a set with another queen on the flop, them hit quads after the case queen spiked on the river! BOOM!

Moutinko is now up to more than 14,000 after that hand, but she'll have a long way to go if she wants to catch Linda McDonald, who now tops our counts with more than 23,000!

Nine-Handed Play

Livello 5 : 100/200, 0 ante

Up until this point, the Ladies Championship has been playing ten players to a table. That just changed as the tournament staff has just announced that all tables are converting to nine-handed play. More room = more comfort.
