Day 1 of Event #38: $10,000 Limit 2-7 Triple Draw Championship is expected to attract a who's who of mixed game specialists. The prestigious event is set to begin at 2 p.m. local time from the 2023 World Series of Poker at Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas.

Brian Hastings is the defending champion of this event. Last year he outlasted a field of 118 players, defeating Eric Wasserson in heads up play to win $292,146 and capture his sixth career gold bracelet.

Other notables to make the money in this event last year include bracelet winners Dan Zack, Shaun Deeb, Marco Johnson, Yuval Bronshtein, Phil Hellmuth, Andrew Kelsall, Farzad Bonyadi and Danny Wong. An elite field is expected to join the chase today for one of the more prestigious WSOP gold bracelets of the series.

Players today will start with 60,000 chips. The opening day will consist of 10 levels; the first six will be 40 minutes long, and the last four will be 60 minutes long. There will be a 15 minute break after every two hours of play and late registration will be open until the start of Day 2.

Day 1 has begun for Event #38: $10,000 Limit 2-7 Lowball Triple Draw. There are 21 entrants registered at the start of play today and the field is expected to grow substantially as late registration is available until the start of Day 2. Play on Day 1 will consist of six 40-minute levels followed by four 60-minute levels with a 15 minute break scheduled every two hours.

A player in early position raised and was called by Ryan Pedigo in the big blind.

Both players drew two and Pedigo led out for a bet. His opponent called.

One the second draw, both players drew one and Pedigo's opponent called another bet from Pedigo.

Pedigo drew one on the final draw and his opponent stood pat. Both players checked down and the early-position player announced, "Ten," to which Pedigo replied "Nine," as he fanned out 9x8x7x5x2x and was sent the pot.

Daniel Negreanu Quietly Having Success in Large Field Events at 2023 WSOP

At the 2022 World Series of Poker (WSOP), the Poker Hall of Famer lost $1.1 million and was never in contention for Player of the Year. He isn't really in contention yet this year, but he isn't too far off from getting to that point.

Strelitz Makes a Wheel

Action was picked up after the second draw. Daniel Strelitz checked from the big blind and Brian Yoon bet. Strelitz raised to two bets and Yoon made the call, drawing one while Strelitz stood pat.

Yoon called another bet from Strelitz with no draws remaining and was shown the bad news when Strelitz turned over 7x5x4x3x2x for a wheel to take down the pot.

Johansson Takes From Chan

Action folded around to the blinds, where Terrence Chan raised from the small and Oscar Johansson called from the big.

Chan drew two and Johansson drew three on the first draw. Chan then check-called a bet from Johansson.

Chan drew two again and Johansson drew one on the second draw. Chan again check-called a bet.

Both players drew one on the final draw and Chan check-called once more.

Johannson announced, "Ninety-eight," as he turned over 9x8x7x5x2x and Chan mucked — conceding the pot to Johansson.
