PokerNews Podcast: Josh Arieh Talks Hot 2023 WSOP; David Williams on Bracelet Stolen in Home Robbery

Livello 26 : Blinds 40,000/80,000, 80,000 ante

On the latest PokerNews Podcast episode, Chad Holloway and Jesse Fullen continue The Chad & Jesse Poker Show straight from the 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP).

In the penultimate show of the summer, Chad & Jesse welcome two guests to the show starting with Josh Arieh, who has won two bracelets this summer and was nominated for the Poker Hall of Fame. Arieh talked about the WSOP back in the late 1990s, his career resurgence, Poker Stake, and shares a fun story involving Ted Forrest and the late Layne Flack.

The other guest is 2004 WSOP Main Event runner-up David Williams, who was fresh off winning a Flip & Go. He talks about his history in that event, how his WSOP gold bracelet and diamond toothpick were stolen in a home robbery, and why he wouldn’t do Master Chef again.

Chad and Jesse then do a new "Calling the Clock" segment in which they offer quick two-minute dialogues for topics on “The Board.”

Kelsall Bombs The River

Livello 26 : Blinds 40,000/80,000, 80,000 ante

AJ Kelsall raised to 185,000 first-to-act and was called by Fabrice Bigot in the big blind.

Bigot check-called a 105,000 bet from Kelsall on the 84A flop and then both players checked on the 5 turn.

The 4 completed the board and Bigot checked once more. Kelsall cut out a bet of 770,000 and placed it into the middle, which got a fold from Bigot after a bit of thought.

Phil Hellmuth Eliminated in 9th Place ($86,118)

Phil Hellmuth moved all in for his last 835,000 on the button and was looked up by Eli Berg in the small blind.

Phil Hellmuth: 88
Eli Berg: AJ

It was a coinflip with Hellmuth's tournament life on the line. The K7A flop immediately paired up Berg to leave Hellmuth hoping to make a set to survive. It did not happen as the 4 turn and 10 river completed the board to send the all time WSOP bracelet leader out a couple spots short of the final table.

Fabrice Bigot raised to 180,000 first-to-act and Andrey Kotelnikov shoved for his last 1,065,000 from the cutoff. Stephen Chidwick called cold from the small blind and Bigot let his hand go.

Andrey Kotelnikov: KQ
Stephen Chidwick: AA

Kotelnikov had run into aces, and the A29105 runout left Chidwick best with a set — eliminating Kotelnikov in 10th place.

Alexandre Reard opened to 175,000 from the cutoff and then called after Farid Jattin three-bet to 870,000 out of the big blind.

Jattin checked on the JJ3 flop, prompting Reard to bet 425,000. Jattin made the call to send the two players to the turn.

As on the previous street Jattin checked following the 8 turn. Reard counted a bet of 1,100,000 only to see Jattin move all in. Reard snapped it off with the covering stack.

Farid Jattin: KK
Alexandre Reard: AJ

Jattin had had the best of it preflop but Reard had managed to flop trips to leave Jattin on the ropes. No miracle came on the 9 river as Jattin smashed his phone down onto the table in frustration before making his exit in 11th place.

Bigot Takes From Chidwick

Livello 26 : Blinds 40,000/80,000, 80,000 ante

Fabrice Bigot opened to 180,000 from the hijack and was called by Stephen Chidwick in the big blind.

Chidwick check-called a 130,00 bet from Bigot on the 73A flop and the both players checked down on the 6 turn and J river.

Chidwick turned over 44, but it wasn't enough against the A5 of Bigot for a pair of aces and he dragged the pot.

Andre Marques Eliminated in 12th Place ($51,951)

Andre Marques
Andre Marques

Justin Liberto opened to 120,000 on the button only to see Andre Marques shove for 1,700,000 out of the big blind. That sent Liberto deep into the tank as the remaining players prepared for the two table redraw. Eventually he called to put his opponent at risk.

Andre Marques: 44
Justin Liberto: KQ

Marques was locked in a race with big equity on the line. Unfortunately for him the flop came 6K9 to leave Marques drawing thin. The J turn was no help with the 9 river confirming Marques' exit in 12th place.
