Winzeler Leaves Early

A bit too early.

Max Silver opened to 11,000 under the gun, and Hans Winzeler three-bet shoved for his last 50,000 flat. Silver has plenty of chips to call with a hand like {Q-Spades} {10-Diamonds}, and that's just what he did with a chance to bring the field to the bubble. Winzeler was relieved to see a medium-strength hand shown down, and his {J-Hearts} {J-Spades} had him poised for the double up.

And then came the disastrous {3-Hearts} {Q-Hearts} {6-Clubs} flop. Silver keeps the run-good alive, out-flopping his opponent to leave him two cards from the door. Winzeler stood up and tucked his chair under the table as the turn came the blank {2-Spades}, and he had half his body turned away from the table when the dealer burned and turned the final card.

River: {J-Clubs}

Ka-boom! Nobody was more surprised to see the two-outer than Winzeler, and this one has saved his tournament life. "It's my first set in the whole tournament," he said as he raked in the double. He's back to 111,500 now, and still shaking his head from that sick sweat.

Waxman Not Happy

On the last hand before the break at his table, Matt Waxman raised from under the gun to 8,000. Tom Bedell called out of the small blind and everyone else folded.

The flop came down {J-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} and Bedell checked. Waxman bet 12,000 and Bedell called to see the turn.

Fourth street was the {3-Spades} and Bedell checked again. Waxman kept his foot on the gas and fired 27,500. Bedell called.

The river landed with the {K-Diamonds} and Bedell led into Waxman for 60,000. Waxman looked a little upset with the way the hand played out, but eventually made the call. Bedell then tabled the {6-Spades}{3-Clubs} for a turned two pair. Waxman was visibly upset and mucked his hand.

The Demise of Ricardo Tavares

Ricardo Tavares was absolutely motoring earlier on today. The man from Brazil had a smidgen under 400,000 and now he has 60,000. I asked a few people who he had lost his chips to and the answer was everyone. So I thought I would just give you a run-down of the table.

Dempsey Falls Short

James Dempsey - out
James Dempsey - out

We missed the hand that did him in, but James "Flushy" Dempsey has just been eliminated a couple spots short of the money.

The nervous chatter is really starting to build in the room as we're very near the bubble.

Double or Nothing For Tony G

Tony G
Tony G

The board shows 68 players remaining, and everyone in the room is doing some bubble sweating right now. One man is sweating a little harder than the rest, though. Tony G has €20,000 riding on making the money, and at 5:1 odds, a mini-cash is essentially worth almost as much as seventh place to him! All that didn't stop him from getting his chips in just a couple spots from the money.

It happened on the turn of a {9-Hearts} {8-Hearts} {A-Spades} {4-Spades} board. With just about 60,000 in the pot, Tony G shoved in for 131,000 total. And he got called! Tom Bedell clearly hasn't been reading PokerNews lately, or he might have been able to lay down his {A-Diamonds} {K-Hearts}. But he couldn't, and he was drawing dead as soon as his chips crossed the betting line. Tony G showed up the unbeatable {A-Clubs} {A-Spades}.

The river was a meaningless {3-Spades}, and Tony G has found his bubble double. We've got him right on 300,000 chips now.

"Bring the chips, bring the Russians, bring Zasko. I'm the table captain now." After the hand, Tony ordered a slice of chocolate cake, an American coffee, and a cigar. It's nearly time to celebrate.

Litvinov Flips Again

Artem Litvinov raised to 8,000 from late position, and MIke Leah three-bet him to 18,000 as he slipped on a pair of sunglasses. Litvinov called, and it was heads up to the {8-Spades} {6-Hearts} {K-Clubs} flop. They both checked, and Litvinov checked again on the {10-Spades} turn. Leah put out a bet of 19,000, and Litvinov instantly called. The {J-Spades} river drew one more check in front of Leah, and he bet 26,000 on the river. That left him with 14,500 behind, and he had to endure a long tank session from Litvinov.

After several long minutes, Litvinov flipped his lucky coin again. It came up tails, and he quickly uncapped his cards and slipped them into the muck. We've yet to see his coin flip come up "Call".
