Henrique Lessa Bags Chip Lead on Day 2 of the WSOP Paradise Main Event

Livello 25 : Blinds 30,000/60,000, 60,000 ante
Henrique Lessa

The action has come to an end on Day 2 of Event #10: $5,000 Main Event Championship at the 2023 World Series of Poker Paradise at the five-star Atlantis Resort in The Bahamas.

447 players made their way to the tournament floor to compete for the $2,000,000 first-place prize, the gold bracelet, and the title of being the first-ever WSOP in Paradise Main Event Winner. After a total of 25 levels of play, it was Henrique Lessa who bagged the chip lead with an impressive stack of 8,640,000 and will lead the remaining field of 59 players into Day 3. He was involved early and often to keep his foot on the gas and slowly build to the Day 2 chip leader.

Adam Walton
Adam Walton

However, there are some talented players right on his tail. Adam Walton (8,480,000) is no stranger to deep runs in WSOP main events after he finished third in this year's main for a cool $4,000,000. He currently sits second in chips and will look to add some hardware to his already impressive resume. Vitor Dzivielevski (4,360,000) is one of only two players left in the field with a shot at the $100,000 bonus from GG Poker for winning a bracelet over the summer and in paradise. Rounding out the top ten is Frank Lagodich (3,670,000) who will look to add his first bracelet to an already impressive trophy case as he moves onto Day 3 with plenty of chips to make waves.

Among the players that bagged but are sitting outside the top ten include some absolute crushers in high-stakes regular Mikita Badziakouski (2,000,000), mixed game specialist Bryce Yockey (2,610,000), MTT end boss David Peters (2,530,000), Bracelet winner Sam Greenwood (1,190,000), and 2023 Colossus winner Moshe Refaelowitz (2,600,000).

Moshe Refaelowitz
Moshe Refaelowitz

Speaking of Refaelowitz, he bagged a healthy stack for Day 3 and appears to be the only other player left standing in the main who has a shot at the $100,000 bonus that GG Poker is so graciously offering to any player who won a bracelet over the summer at WSOP and rips off another in Paradise. Only time will tell if the pro from Israel can catch lighting in a bottle and get his second piece of WSOP hardware.

Unfortunately, not everyone was so lucky. Among the players who made Day 2 but couldn’t find a bag for Day 3 include bracelet winner Aram Zobian WSOP Main Event winner Damian Salas, six-time bracelet winner Josh Arieh, his Game of Gold co-star David Williams, chess phenom and recent poker enthusiast Alexandra Botez, and the one and only Daniel Negreanu who ran into aces to hit the rail.

The remaining 59 players will return at 2 p.m. local time on Wednesday to play down to a final table of six which will be streamed to a winner on Day 4 of the event. The field will return to Level 26 with blinds at 40,000/80,000/80,000. There will be a 75-minute dinner break after level 30 at about 6:30 p.m. local time.

Stay tuned into PokerNews for all the latest updates from the first ever WSOP in Paradise Main Event!

One of the biggest pots of the day took place at Table 29 as Rui Sousa and Matthias Lipp collided.

The board read K68J6 and several million in chips were already in the middle before Lipp bet all in for around 2,100,000. Sousa went deep into the tank for several minutes before calling.

Lipp tabled Q7 for a stone bluff as Sousa showed KQ to win the pot with a pair of queens.

Kevin Martin opened the button to 110,000 before Imad Derwiche defended his big blind.

The 435 flop landed and action checked to Martin who continued for 150,000. Derwiche promptly met that action with a min-click to 300,000.

Martin sat in the tank for a moment and then clicked it right back to 575,000. Derwiche went into the tank for about a minute but eventually conceded the pot to Martin.

Joseph Lebrun opened in early position to 100,000 before Luigi Soncin three-bet from middle position to 280,000. The action was then on Mason Martin on the button who moved all in for his last 715,000.

Lebrun got out of the way and Soncin went into the tank. After a few moments he put in the rest of the chips and the cards hit their backs with Martin at risk.

Mason Martin: 1010
Luigi Soncin: Q10

Martin got a safe flop in the K76 but a small sweat landed on the 4 turn giving Soncin a flush draw. The 7 river sealed the deal for Martin and he got the pure double.

Vitor Dzivielevski

Vitor Dzivielevski opened in early position to 80,000 before getting called by Adrian Mateos on the button and then the big blind defended.

The 757 flop landed and the action checked all the way to Mateos who took the betting lead with a wager of 90,000. The big blind folded and then Dzivielevski put in a check-raise to 300,000. Mateos called.

The A hit the turn and the action slowed down and checked through to a J river. Dzivielevski checked one more time and Mateos checked it back.

Dzivielevski tabled Q10 for a bluff on the flop that went runner runner flush. Mateos shook his head and mucked as Dzivielevski dragged the pot.

Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

Daniel Negreanu open-jammed a stack of around 300,000 from middle position and got action from the bigger-stacked Fabian Bernhauser in the small blind.

Daniel Negreanu: A4
Fabian Bernhauser: AA

Negreanu started laughing when he saw he was against aces and was drawing to only a chop after the 810J flop and K turn. "Queen!" Negreanu cheered.

A queen didn't come as the 5 bricked off to mark Negreanu's elimination.

Full House Jams Into Quads for the KO!

Lewis Spencer
Lewis Spencer

The action folded all the way to Lewis Spencer in the small blind who opened to 85,000 and got a call from Goran Mandic in the big blind.

The 68A flop landed and Spencer continued for 50,000. Mandic called and the K rolled off on the turn.

Spencer sat in the tank for a moment and then put out another bet of 110,000. Mandic called again.

The A hit the river and after a moment of thought, Spencer moved all in. Mandic snap-called having Spencer covered by a few blinds.

Spencer tabled KK for a boat but Mandic tabled a perfectly slow-played AA for quads to send Spencer and his scarf to the payout line.

Timothy Adams
Timothy Adams

Ivan Luca opened in middle position to 60,000 and got called by Kevin Martin in the cutoff, Kelvin Kerber on the button, and Timothy Adams in the small blind.

The AK8 flop landed and action checked to Luca who continued for 65,000. Only Martin and Adams called.

The 10 rolled off on the turn and after a minute in the tank Adams went with a donk-lead of 155,000. Only Luca called.

The blank 4 landed on the river and after about 30-seconds in the tank Adams moved all in covering Luca. He called pretty quickly and got the bad news.

Adams tabled 63 for a fast played flush and Luca tabled QJ for Broadway with the heart blocker. Luca hit the rail after a fairly cold deck.
