ElkY Crippled

Livello 4 : 75/150, 0 ante

Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier raised to 350 under the gun, and got one caller in middle position. The flop came out {k-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{3-Spades}, and ElkY quickly threw his last 2,500 in. His opponent called, and ElkY was in bad shape.

ElkY: {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}
Opponent: {k-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}

The turn came the {10-Clubs}, and the river brought the {8-Spades}, and ElkY was knocked down to 500 in chips. On the next hand, he was all in, and got two callers. The board ran out {k-Spades}{4-Clubs}{6-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}, and his {a-Hearts}{5-Spades} chopped with one opponents {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}, pushing him up to 800 in chips. The start of a comeback perhaps?

Men The Master's Suckout Earns the Double

Following his heated discussion with another player at his table, Men "The Master" Nguyen was found pushing all of his chips into the middle. His all-in bet of 1,750 came with the flop reading {7-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{Q-Hearts} and was quickly called by an opponent who flipped up {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds} for the dominating lead over Nguyen's {6-Clubs}{6-Hearts}.

Nguyen appeared to have tilted his way right to the rail, but when the dealer revealed the {6-Diamonds} on the turn, The Master was all smiles. After the {5-Hearts} fell on the river, Nguyen had doubled-up to 5,200 with his come from way behind win.

David Williams Drops One, Rebounds Quickly

David Williams Has Had An Up-And-Down Day 1
David Williams Has Had An Up-And-Down Day 1

A player in the hijack raised to 350 and David Williams called holding the button. The flop fell {8-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{7-Spades} and the opponent continued with a bet of 550, which Williams called.

After a {3-Diamonds} came on the turn both players tapped the table, and then did the same when the {8-Diamonds} arrived on the river. The other player revealed {9-Clubs}{9-Spades} and Williams mucked his hand. This loss dropped Williams to 6,500 but as we passed by his table just a few minutes later, Williams had replenished his stack and he now has 9,600 chips to work with.

Duhamel Keeps On Rolling

Livello 4 : 75/150, 0 ante

It seems like every time we walk by Jonathan Duhamel's table, he is involved in a big hand. Just now, we saw Duhamel as he was put to the test after an opponent moved all in for 2,400 preflop. Duhamel cut out the chips for the call and roll them into the middle.

Duhamel: {8-Diamonds}{8-Spades}
Opponent: {a-Hearts}{4-Spades}

The board ran out {9-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{10-Clubs} and since neither player had a club, Duhamel's eights were good. He claimed the bounty and upped his stack to 15,500.

Spelling Bee Champ Pratyush Buddiga Crippled

Former Scripps National Spelling Bee champion Pratyush Buddiga has taken a shining to poker of late, competing in many WSOP tournaments, but on this day he appears to be struggling.

We caught Buddiga involved in a hand after he had raised to 325 before the flop. An opponent in middle position reraised to 1,500 and Buddiga shoved all-in for his last 3,925. His opponent made the call and turned over {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}, which put him in great shape against Buddiga's {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades}.

The final board rolled out {5-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} and Buddiga's pair of nines was second best. He fell to just 725 after the lost and will have to recapture some of spelling bee magic if he hopes survive the Day 1 minefield.

Lew Leaves Early

Livello 4 : 75/150, 0 ante

We noticed Lew just as he slid his last several hundred into the middle, apparently having been crippled a little earlier. A player who had limped in early position called.

Lew: {A-Diamonds}{2-Spades}
Opponent: {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}

The board ran out {8-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{3-Hearts} and Lew nodded his head in acknowledgement before getting up from the table.

Men Nguyen (Event # 33) Not In The Best Of Moods Here On Day 1

Passing by Men "The Master" Nguyen's table recently, we stumbled upon a heated discussion between the tournament veteran and another player. While outbursts of anger or arguments occassionally happen during any poker game, Nguyen seems to have an uncanny ability to place himself squarely in the middle of these types of controversies. Earlier in this year's WSOP, Nguyen was nearly assessed a penalty for verbally jousting with "Hollywood" Dave Stann over the former's alleged angle-shooting.

Today, we found Nguyen abusing a fellow player at his table over the issue of the button. Apparently the button was not moved to The Master in a timely fashion, and Nguyen responded by accosting the young player, who seemed to sincerely believe the button was on him. Nguyen began yelling at the player and the dealer alike, asking "You wanna bet? You wanna bet me on this right now?!" while the intimidated player pleaded his case.

When the mishap was finally sorted out, Nguyen asked the dealer "You think this my first tournament? Why you believe him and not me?" Before the dealer could answer, another player at the table shot Nguyen a glance and stated simply "Because we don't know him man. We know you, that's why we don't trust you."

We hope this is just a blip on the radar here on Day 1, but we will be sure to keep you updated on Men "The Master" Nguyen and his antics at the table.

Livello 4 : 75/150, 0 ante

We walked pass Farak Jaka's table just as the dealer announced, "Seat open!" The open seat was where Jaka was sitting, meaning that he busted moments before.
